Tuning In To Satellite TV By: David Sanders

While much of the world still relies on cable television, more and more and finding that the concept of satellite TV not only offers the same wide range of programming, but it also is often the more affordable option. Not so long ago, satellite dishes were big and took up a lot of space. Today, however, with Dish Network and Direct TV, a small unit can be installed into the ground or even affixed on the side of your home for improved reception.

One of the most popular benefits to watching satellite TV is that, unlike cable, you can choose which channels you get in the membership plan. With cable, you are required to pay a fixed price each month in exchange for a specific number of programs. Satellite TV, however, allows you to add or drop any channels at any time and for any reason. Quite often, the changes are made on the same day as you call in the request.

Satellite TV companies show the same programming and content as does cable television. Membership fees will vary depending on the type of programs and number of channels included in your package. Because of it’s convenience, many customers opt for paying a monthly bill. Others, however, choose to pay the full amount in one annual lump sum in order to avoid the hassle of having to pay a monthly bill. Providing their account is up-to-date, most customers can cancel their membership at any time.

When it comes to satellite TV equipment, many consumers shy away from it because they expect that it would be expensive and/or difficult to install. While everyone has the option of purchasing a satellite dish and installing it themselves, most people prefer to sign up for satellite TV programming and have the company come and install the dish for free. In exchange for signing up for service, most satellite TV providers will send out a crew to install and program the dish at no additional charge. The only catch, if you can call it that, is that the satellite dish and receiver will remain the property of the company and must be returned upon the cancellation of service. This means that extra care should be taken to make sure that the equipment is not damaged.

Once a new fad, satellite TV has blossomed into a permanent fixture that has found it’s way into many households. With one-click pay-per-view purchases, an array of channels and the convenience of choosing your own programming, many simply cannot find one good reason not to have satellite TV. With it, many are seeing the world of television in a whole new way - literally.
