10 Fitness Tips For The Traveling Business Professional

If you're career keeps you in constant motion, it can be difficult to remain committed to fitness. Use the following expert tips to keep you in shape as you climb the corporate ladder.

1. Always book a hotel with health facilities. The use of a gym while traveling is crucial to fitness maintenance. Do your best to keep the same workout schedule as you do when you are home.

Tip: As with all lifting exercises, bicep curls should be done properly. This is essential, because you can easily strain your muscles with poor form.

2. Add sleep to your to-do list. Sleep is a power-tool for your body, both in keeping your body fit and your mind agile. Avoid neglecting sleep when traveling for business, even if you have to sacrifice fun.

3. Be flexible with your workout schedule. Although you may be fond of working out in the mornings or after work only, while you're on the go you may need to adapt. Use a half an hour in the morning or 15 minutes after lunch to get a few reps in as your schedule permits.

Tip: Keep doing things that are best for you. You should not feel embarrassed or worry about how you look; what matters is how effective your workout is.

4. Work and workout at the same time. You can talk on the phone while riding an exercise bike or take care of emails on a treadmill. Busy people who are dedicated to fitness find very clever ways of working the workouts into their lives.

5. Chose to move whenever possible. Technology can keep us stationary; deliver things in person instead of electronically if you can. Use the stairs at every opportunity and make sure you get up from your desk every so often and stretch.

Tip: To make sure you don't waste time washing your workout gear, only purchase clothing in neutral colors, and store dirty items in the same hamper. If all your workout clothes match each other it makes it easier to throw on an outfit.

6. Keep yourself motivated. Sometimes you must chose between business and fitness, but keep in mind that staying physically fit keeps you mentally prepared. Science has shown the value of exercise to your mind and in staving off diseases, so don't skimp or make excuses!

7. Take control when dining out. If you can't chose the restaurant, at least choose a healthy entree. More fat and calories are packed into the most appealing house specialties and partaking of them is costly to your health. Order soup and salad with dressing on the side and hold the (white) bread!

Tip: It's a great idea to jot down a few notes about your day's exercise in a fitness journal. Make sure you keep a diary of your exercises that you are doing.

8. Opt for the grocery store instead of room service. Even if you have to go a little out of the way for fresh produce and organic snacks, make the effort. It's difficult to know what you are really getting in terms of nutrition and calories with take-out, so hit the local supermarket if at all possible.

9. There's an app for fat. Travel with an app that will calculate your calories for you and keep you on the fitness straight and narrow. For less than the cost of a cheeseburger, you can maintain your commitment to fitness from anywhere in the world.

Tip: To make sure you are exercising properly, make it a habit to check whether you are over-training yourself. Check your pulse the day after a workout to ensure that it has returned to normal.

10. Keep appointments with your doctor. Sure, your life is busy and filled with a lot of important things to do, but don't let that be an excuse not to see your physician regularly. Early detection of any disease or condition is crucial to healing and recovery, which would put you back at work faster anyway!

You shouldn't compromise your fitness program when you are on the road for business. Practice these tips and make the time to be healthy.
