| Title | 4 Reasons Business Travel Doesn't Have To Be Boring |
When you get your first office job, you might be excited about the prospect of being sent away to London overnight. "This is going to be amazing", you may think as you set your alarm for 4am. After a few trips though, the combination of long-haul travel and early starts can begin to get to you, to the point where business travel is something that you dread as opposed to something to look forward to.
However, it doesn't have to be like this. In fact, you can see it as an opportunity to get to know cities you would have never travelled to otherwise. Rather than merely focusing on the business side of trips, why not plan ahead so that you can fill all your downtime with exciting activities?
If you bear in mind these four reasons why business travel can be fun, you can guarantee that you'll make the most of any time away.
Catch up on your reading:
In the days of fast food and fast entertainment, people often lament that they don't read enough. If you're travelling for business, now is the perfect time. If you have a Kindle you can download many classic fictional works for free from various reputable websites such as Project Gutenberg. It's all legitimate; these works of fiction are so old that they've gone out of copyright. If you're more traditional and enjoy having a nice paperback, take a visit to a charity bookshop. You can pick up some great books for a matter of pennies, and you can rest in the knowledge that the proceeds are going to a good cause.
Sightsee:
Just because you're on a business trip doesn't mean that you can't make some time for yourself! Pack a camera and after office hours are over forget heading back to your hotel right away. The bulk of UK business travel is done to and from London, and there's plenty to do there, but most major UK cities offer something for everyone. You could even do a little online research beforehand to see if there's anything you'd particularly like to make an effort to see or do.
Take the chance to enjoy a nice meal:
If you're based some distance from the city centre at a hotel nearer an airport, you might be surprised at the volume of Heathrow hotels that have great restaurants within them - meaning that you can enjoy top quality food even if you aren't based in the heart of a city. If you're travelling with someone else from your work, you can use this time to get to know them a little better.
Make the most of "you" time:
If you find it difficult to switch off after a working day, use the new environment you're in to help you get work off your mind. Going away overnight on business is the perfect time to unwind and get in touch with your thoughts and feelings without anyone around to interrupt. Sure, you're not guaranteed to find inner peace lying on a hotel bed, but it's as good a place as any to start.
