| Title | Alternative Fuels Are Here For Good |
Alternative Fuels: Not A Fad
Endeavors to create different types of alternative fuels have become one of the biggest areas in the auto industry. As scientists continue to develop fuels that are cleaner burning and won't damage the environment, alternative fuels are the wave of the future. To date, they have come up with several that are good for the planet and also offer a fantastic advantage to drivers.
The most popular alternative fuel is ethanol. Ethanol is also called grain alcohol, and it is mostly produced from either corn or soya beans. You may find at the gas station something known as E85 which is a combination of 85% ethanol and 15% gas. Many who use it say that it burns cleaner that gas and offers better gas mileage. Although there is gas in E85, it does not emit as much toxins as normal gasoline. Ethanol can be produced from any organic material including waste from crops, tossed paper and the like. Because they both are alcohol-based products, methanol is a form of alternative fuel very akin to ethanol.
Methanol can be produced out of biomass resources, including wood and coal, and is referred to as wood alcohol. These days, creating methanol is affordable since it can be made from natural gas or propane. Another alternative fuel has been used in homes for a number of years, but now is rising in popularity for autos, and that is propane, a compressed natural gas. Propane is a common fuel that comes from underground, similar to oil. As the name implies, natural gas is a gas much like air, and not like crude oil which is a liquid. Its popularity has grown over the years since propane is an eco-friendly fuel. Electricity is another alternative fuel that has gotten much attention.
Electric autos have been in development since the seventies but have not gained popularity until recent times. The electric auto obtains its power from batteries instead of gasoline. So as to run the car, it will need 12 or 24 batteries. Yet another alternative fuel type that has promise is hydrogen. Presently, it is in the experimental phase but it has a lot of potential. The advantages of hydrogen are that it is not difficult to produce and it is extremely light. It is expected that hydrogen will be the next big thing to power vehicles.
What's discussed in the article is just a few of the alternative fuel sources on the market these days. As we become more afraid of global warming, efforts will be made to discover better alternative fuels. Alternative fuels will continue to grow in popular, and their place will go up and down according to what is discovered next.
