Bearded Dragon Enclosures For These Gentle Pets

In order to keep bearded dragons as pets or for breeding, bearded dragon enclosures are needed to house them. These enclosures are important because these represent their habitat. Being confined in a tank unduly stresses bearded dragons; thus, a cage that approximates it's natural habitat is excellent.

For beardies to be able to adapt to their new bearded dragon enclosures, the former habitat must be mimicked in terms of:

1. The right substratum which is supposed to take the place of the grounds must have the appropriate substrate material. Walls cannot retain heat in general so the substrate must help in keeping the heat.

2. Bearded dragons are ectothermic with body temperatures which are influenced by the environmental temperatures; the temperature inside the cage must be maintained about 78 to 88F during the day and about 70F at night.

3. To keep the proper cage temperatures, a primary and secondary heat sources like incandescent lights and bulbs need to be mounted. Aside from these, other special lights are mounted like UVB lights.

4. The sides of the bearded dragon enclosures must be smooth and the wire mesh, if ever used, must be covered with plastic to prevent abrasions in the snout or nose area.

5. The size should not be overly big for hatchlings to prevent stress that may be triggered when they get lost. A 10 to 15-gallon aquarium is ideal for the juveniles. Conversely, mature bearded dragons need 55-60 gallon aquarium.

6. The design must be simple to allow easy cleaning and fumigation to prevent infections from occurring. Secure with tight fitting covers.

7. Polyurethane or any water proofing material can be used to protect the wood if such is used to fabricate the constructed bearded dragon enclosures.

8. These pets need less water for drinking because they actually derive it from the food they eat. But just the same, a clean source must always be available. A container for soaking must be shallow enough to they can get into and out of it with ease.

It will be easy to care for these pets if bearded dragon enclosures closely follow the idea set up for a standard cage where hygiene is promoted.
