We can spend a lot of money on a holiday, so we need to make sure that we enjoy every minute of it. Your holiday starts at the moment you leave for the airport, and not when you arrive at your destination, yet most people just get on the flight and put up with it, rather than making sure that they enjoy it. In most cases the flight can be the most expensive part of the holiday, so why not enjoy it? There are a number of ways to make sure that you arrive at your destination having had a good flight, and they are mentioned below.
The Booking Process
Most people will book online these days, and it is always recommended that you book direct with the airline, rather than with a comparisons site, and definitely do not use a travel agent that you have never heard of. It is amazing how many people will use unknown travel agents, and then pay via bank or online transfer, only to never see their money again. By booking direct with the airline you are limiting any problems that can occur. It also means that you can book your seat, so that you get an area of the plane that you feel more comfortable in.
The Airport
When you get to the airport, the first thing you do is check-in. Hopefully, before you left, you weighed your luggage so that it was not over the limit the airline allows. A good set of scales can be bought for only a few dollars, and take them with you to use on the return journey. The biggest problem at the check-in counter is people with overweight luggage.
Before you even get to security, it is best to put anything in your pockets into a bag within your hand luggage. The same goes for jewelry and a belt. This can really speed up getting through. If you have a laptop, always remove it and place it in a tray on its own. Never take liquids into the security area, unless they are in a clear plastic bag.
Purchase some food and a drink for the flight once through security. Once you are on the plane, if you discover that you do not like the food they serve, then you will have a backup if you have your own. If it is a really long flight, then buying a flask, and a large coffee can be a good idea.
The Flight
Once onboard, take everything out of your carry-on luggage that you will need for the flight. It is really annoying to other passengers if you are constantly getting stuff out of the overheads in-flight. Get up every hour and walk around as it can really help you feel better.
Flying is fun, but make sure you take enough things onboard to do such as reading, or these days you can take a tablet full of music and videos.
