Knowhow-Now Article

Very often, fashion is all about the accessories. For the man of style, owning key staple itmes will help you maintain a classic, stylish look that you can update with the addition of on-trend accessories. Fashion is not about buying the latest short-term fad, but about owning classic items and giving them a contemporary twist. Within every man’s wardrobe, there should be a series of items that are timeless and work in a range of different situations. Feel free to spend a little more on these items - after all, you will wear them time and time again and get more than your money's worth.

A suit is an item that no man can do without. Even if you work in a dressed down office, you are sure to need a suit for interviews or other special occasions. Buying a suit is a time to treat yourself, so try to avoid the budget option. A well-cut suit in a dark colour will never go out of style. If you have the means, opt for a tailored suit, although if you are choosing an off-the-peg suit, try it on and make sure it fits well. A black or dark grey suit will remain stylish for years, and will be well worth the initial investment.

Plain white t-shirts have a reputation for being boring, but it is a classic item that can be paired with nearly every outfit. You should avoid deep cut V-necks, which tend to go in and out of style, and instead go for a small V-neck or crew neck. A slightly fitted white t-shirt will also hold its shape better, meaning that it does not become baggy over time. Feel free to sport a plain white t-shirt on its own in the summer, and it will also work as an under-jumper option in the colder months.

The classic trouser that every man should own is jeans. Again, picking a traditional cut, and perhaps spending a little more than you are used to will pay off in the long-term. Choose a straight leg cut if you are a little taller and slimmer, and want to avoid looking even skinnier. Skinny mens jeans may not work if you are shorter or larger than average, and it's important to recognise that these tight-fitting trousers could fall out of style in quickly. Most jean brands have a ‘straight-leg’ option. This classic cut is more likely to remain in style year in and year out. Choose dark colours that will ensure over time and avoid rips or stonewashes. By choosing a simple, straight-leg, dark wash pair of jeans, you'll be able to make the most out of this wardrobe staple.
