Hair Loss Remedies

Hair loss can be absolutely devastating. It can be hard to feel confident when your hair is noticeably thinning. Some men are able to pull off the bald, shaved head look, but others cannot. If you are suffering from hair loss, the information that you learn from this article will be of great use to you. There are a variety of hair loss treatments that can help you to get your hair back. Having a full head of hair will boost your confidence and make you feel great. Read on to learn about several hair loss treatments.

Before treating your hair loss, you must know what is causing it. Although the majority of hair loss is due to genetics, i.e. male or female pattern baldness, there are a number of illnesses that can cause hair loss to occur.

Tip: Make sure to wash your hair of any gels before you go to sleep. If you go to bed with gel in your hair, the pillow will often push the gel into the pores on your scalp.

Hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and various other endocrine system disorders can cause significant amounts of hair loss. Changes in hormone levels will also cause hair loss; an example of this is when women lose hair after giving birth. High levels of stress and anxiety will also cause massive amounts of hair loss and shedding. In cases of stress influenced hair loss, the hair loss often does not occur until six months after the traumatic event, so you may actually no longer be feeling stressed when your hair starts falling out. Diets that are extremely low in calories can also cause hair loss. People suffering from severe anorexia will usually have extensive hair loss because their body is lacking essential nutrients. The good news is that if your hair loss is caused by a medical illness, stress or a poor diet, once this underlying cause is treated, your hair should eventually stop falling out and begin to grow back. You must be patient, however, as it can take six months to a year for your hair to come back to what it was.

Genetic hair loss is very difficult to treat. There are only two treatments that have been proven to be effective, so don't waste money on untested snake oil supplements. Finasteride is a pill that, in order to be effective, must be taken every day. It helps halt hair loss by reducing DHT levels. Although most men will definitely not grow back all of their hair by taking Finasteride, they will likely stop or at the very least slow down the progression of their genetic hair loss. Because of the effect that Finasteride can have on a fetus, the drug is almost always exclusively prescribed to men, although in rare cases women with severe genetic hair loss have used the medication. Minoxidil is a liquid or cream solution that is applied to the thinning areas of the scalp. It may be used by both men and women. Minoxidil is no miracle baldness cure, but it does help some people.

Tip: Try to avoid wearing tight hats if you want to prevent hair loss. A hat is constantly pulling on your hair which can cause roots to grow too close to the surface of the skin on your scalp.

As was mentioned earlier, stress is, along with being terrible for your overall health, terrible for your hair. Make an effort to reduce the stress in your life and eat a healthy diet filled with protein to help keep your hair strong.

If you are unable to grow your hair back, you may want to consider wearing a hair system. Although there is time and effort involved in wearing a hair system, they can look amazingly natural. It is not your fault that your hair fell out, so there is no shame in wanting to fix the problem.
