Temporary hair removal treatments include both depilation and epilation. Depilation is the removal of only part of the hair, which is on the surface of the skin. Shaving is one of the most commonly used forms of hair removal. Additionally, chemical depilatories such as creams and shaving powders are used to dissolve the hair. Epilation is removal of the entire hair from the root itself. This method is more long lasting and includes different forms such as; waxing, plucking with tweezers, threading, sugaring, and using epilators such as mechanical tweezers.
Permanent hair removal treatments include a variety of options that give out long lasting results. These options use various kinds of chemicals and energies. These are used separately or sometimes taken as a combined effect and is targeted on areas that has unwanted hair and inhibit the growth of hair. Methods such as laser hair removal, electrolysis and intense pulse light are commonly used for permanent hair removal treatments.

During the laser hair removal treatment process, a laser is usually targeted at the hair follicles, destroying them. This is done without damaging the surrounding skin areas. The process should be carried out by a qualified doctor. This method is a safe treatment yet painful and quite expensive.
Hair growth inhibitor treatments is the process of consuming prescribed medicines such as oral medications and also using topical creams that are clinically proven to slow the growth of hair in a persons face, etc. Vaniqa is a cream that is prescribed for women aged 12 and above. Application of the cream helps in the reduction of unwanted facial hair. Some use this in conjunction with another hair removal method to get best results.
Apart from the above methods, there are doubtful hair removal treatments that are in practice but are not clinically proven for its efficiency and effectiveness.
