Knowhow-Now Article

Terms like quality control, best in class, sustainability, and others like them are often tossed around with little thought as to their true meaning. These words carry weight and they should be respected for what they represent in their most authentic use. Achieving control over quality for a brief moment in time is not a great challenge – it can be done; but try sustaining that level of control over an extended period of time so that this new high level of achievement becomes the minimum accepted level of performance. Now that is something to be proud of.

Fortunately the business owner has limitless resources virtually at their fingertips to ensure they too can achieve this kind of success. By incorporating learning strategies early in a workers employment, businesses are able to set the tone for all things that follow. Too often this initial stage is disregarded and employers fail to capitalize on the first two weeks of a workers employment, which are critical to establishing expectations, corporate culture, rules, business practices and the general tone of the company.

By focusing the workers first weeks with the company on HSE, e-learning training, team interaction, and communication the company will clearly establish to the worker that the business has great value in the workers, the COR safety program, and in the e-learning solutions. This demonstration confirms that the workers should also have a vested interest in these things and act accordingly. From that moment on, until management breaks the cycle, the worker will return to the employer what he or she feels is being given to them by way of corporate commitment and trust.

Monitor your workers; get feedback from groups and supervisors to see what is going well and what areas need improvement. Be active in the worker community and show them that you are part of their world too. This is essential because every action you will do for your company will require the support and participation of the workforce. If the workers do not believe in your project then you will get minimal effort and unsubstantiated data. If you are able to keep the connection with your workers then you will have a wealth of information that is current and useable.

Consistency is achievable on a consistent basis - it starts with the worker and it ends with the worker.
