How The Safety In Defensive Driving Is Ensured

Safety in defensive driving is ensured that is why you take these defensive driving courses. If you value your life, your family and all passengers who ride with you when you hit the road, you will want to take up some defensive driving courses first. By doing this, accidents are well avoided and all precautionary measures will be taken to ensure that all of you enjoy a safe ride.

How is safety in defensive driving ensured in these courses? Here’s how:

• Basic road safety. Aside from refreshing your memory about basic road safety, you will also be taught on what to do in case you find yourself in rough weather conditions and how to prepare for them ahead of time. This will not only ensure your safety, but the other motorists that are with you on the road as well. Domino effects are very common especially when heavy collision between two drivers occur. Sometimes, 6 to 7 vehicles are dragged into this mess even when they were not involved in the first place.

• Signaling and avoiding blind sides. As much as possible do not get on the blind side of other drivers. How are they supposed to exercise safety if they cannot see where you are? This always happens especially when sudden stops or swerving are made. What makes it even worse is during investigation you will be at fault, even if you were the one who got injured because the other driver can claim that he was not able to see you since you were on his blind side.

• Staying in your lane. This is important especially when you find yourself in heavy traffic. Do not make any unnecessary lane changes except if you have to make it to the next freeway exit. This is evident when congestion hits. The more you are in a hurry, the more careful you must be. You will only create more back up and heavy traffic when you use faster lanes even when you don’t need to. Stay with your original lane so there will be no sudden stops and there will be consistent traffic flow.

• The companion driver. Another important thing taught at defensive driving courses is the availability of companions when you are in need of one. These are the times when you are extremely tired or at risk of falling asleep. Make sure that your companion is a licensed driver as well so he or she can take your place when the need arises. Nevertheless, do not get the wrong notion that you can drink and drive just because you have somebody else with you. Nor can you be at the influence of drugs. Remember, all it takes is a split second for an accident to take place. It will not happen if you do not ask for it (most of the time, anyway).

• Veering away from dented or damaged vehicles. Not all, but most of these belong to reckless drivers who always get themselves into trouble and road rage. So avoid them especially during rush hours to prevent the same accidents from happening all over again. You are also taught to give enough room between you and the next vehicle. This way, collisions and chain reactions are avoided in case sudden stops are committed. Remember, it is very difficult to pull the breaks at the last minute, so give yourself enough time and space to do so in case you will need to.

So how is safety in defensive driving ensured? By teaching you to be responsible, cool headed, anticipatory, and care for the safety of everyone on the road, and not just yourself. When you value life, you tend to be more patient and tolerant of others around you. If everyone develops the same mentality and the right kind of attitude, the incidents of vehicular deaths and road accidents will decrease considerably, and hopefully one day, will be totally eradicated.
