Applying For a Teaching Post; What You Need

The thirst for training in schools has risen remarkably, leading to an increase in student population in many of the available schools and colleges. This has resulted to more private schools and community colleges being set up to accommodate this growing number of students. Although all institutions have admission requirements on students, the number of students admitted is more than enough, hence making these institutions look for teaching staff to supplement their tutors.  You can find a teaching post in these institutions very easily. All you need is extra knowledge on their hiring criteria and you are good to go.

First, you need to look out for schools that are in need of teaching staff. These can be found in the classifieds section of newspapers, in yellow pages and in the internet too. You can use the internet to browse through hundreds of teaching posts advertised online, which makes it easy for you, the job applicant choose between employers. Most of the schools and colleges advertise available posts online, and job applications are handled online too. You can also find the employer's contact details within the classifieds too.

All teaching positions advertised come with qualifications needed for the post. Most community schools and private institutions will emphasize on teaching experience, which is a key qualification. If you have more than 6 months of teaching in another institution, you are then better placed than other persons lacking the same. This however doesn't mean anyone without experience cannot apply for these positions. You also need training and certification in the teaching arena to apply for these jobs too. The institutions might even ask for those with Degrees in education as a requirement for their teaching posts.  You can check out with the teaching advert and see what requirements the institution is looking for.  It is then that you can pinpoint what positions to apply for, and to whom.

Once you have made up your mind on which teaching position you wish to apply and are qualified for, the next step would be preparing a detailed professional resume. The resume should indicate all training and certifications acquired, experience and reasons why you are interested in the field.  You however need and have to limit the resume to not more than 3 pages.  This means you will be required to summarize the resume to fit in 3 pages or even less. Long resume and cover letters tend to bore interviewers, meaning he or she might not get time to look into most of the essentials indicated in the resume unless summarized.

Make sure you include referees and their contact details in the resume too. Your contact details should be vivid to make it possible for the employer to contact you if you pass through the interview process.

Receiving an interview call can make one anxious at times. You however need to stay calm and ensure you impress the interviewer especially on questions asked by answering them correctly. The teaching profession requires confidence, and you need to display the same during the interview.   As long as you are confident answering to their questions, and show that you are interested in the job, you can then be assured of a job offer.
