How To Capture The Most Candid Wedding Photography Poses

People have always had the notion that weddings are supposed to be formal. Sometimes, the entire wedding becomes too formal to the point that being in one is stifling. You have probably come across or been in orthodox wedding photography poses hundreds of times already. Wedding guests have been accustomed to lining up in various groups after the ceremony and having their picture taken. Of course, with a photographer doing the job, guests are instructed where to stand and how to line up. Old school photographers would select a pleasant backdrop where the lights are flattering and shoot away. Photographers of today, though, are more technical, creative, and social when it comes to taking pictures.

This means they try different ways to veer away from the norm. They incorporate fun into the wedding pictures probably because they know that the nerves of most of the people, especially the bride and the groom, are frayed. As much as possible, photographers try to infuse comfort and ease to the formality of weddings to make the whole atmosphere more relaxed. Therefore, they are able to capture everyone in attendance in the best wedding photography poses – candid, casual, and genuinely happy. A good photographer would endeavor to capture the varied moments and expressions of all the people present at the wedding. Most importantly, the photographer tries to capture the candid way the couple interacts with their wedding guests.

Tip: Incorporate things like roads, streams, shorelines, railway lines, or even railings, into your images. These are referred to as lead lines and are a great way to capture the way that a viewer is going to look at your photo.

It would be a good idea for the photographer to prepare a checklist of the different pictures he wants to take and show this to the bride and groom. Wedding poses should be divided into four main categories, namely, the wedding party, the couple, the bride’s family, and the groom’s family. Poses for the wedding party should include the maid of honor, best man, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer, and sponsors. On the other hand, wedding photography poses ideas for the couple should include one of the bride walking down the aisle to meet her groom, her with the bouquet, the groom with the bouquet, a close-up shot of the couple, a photo of them kissing, and a snapshot of them cutting the cake, dancing, and leaving the wedding venue. Family pictures of both bride and groom should include parents, siblings, grandparents, and the entire family.

Once the “formal” pictures have been taken, it’s time for everyone to have fun. That’s actually one of the beauties of attending weddings these days – people get to live like models for a day. Everyone perks up when the photographer calls out for unique wedding photography poses. During this time, the couple and the entourage can simply have fun. Some ideas include:

Tip: A great photography tip is to keep your sensor as clean as possible. If your sensor is dirty, you're going to end up with a dirty picture.

1. The groomsmen carrying the groom
2. The groom and the groomsmen carrying the bride
3. The bride and bridesmaids carrying the groom
4. The bride and groom meeting in the middle for a kiss
5. The groom and groomsmen lined up like secret agents
6. The bride and her bridesmaids joining their bouquets together
7. Jumpshots
8. Dipping the bride (and vice versa)
9. Piggy-back ride
10. Staring off into the horizon

There are more unique ideas that the photographer or the couple could come up with, and the important thing is that everyone should be game enough to pose away and enjoy.
