10 Ways To Get Over Someone couple breaking up

Whether you are a victim of an unrequited love or have just suffered a breakup, getting over that someone is a challenge. It is not easy to get over someone you have been in a relationship with, or want badly to be in relationship with. It was a nightmare to even think of losing that person, and here you are, having lost that person – no one said it’s going to be easy, but it is possible. And, it has to be done. How you recover from a breakup, get over that person, or come out of this phase of depression and get over that person depends upon the attitude you choose to have.

Whether you want to be bogged down by the challenges life throws at you, or want to follow that famous quote – anything that doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger, is a choice you need to make. With that said, no one is asking you to not grieve your loss or miss that person you loved so dearly. It’s all about how well you adapt to the changes life throws at you. Having loved and lost or being a victim of an unrequited love have the tendency to be self-destructive, but stay on guard, and stay in control, and the tips mentioned below can help:

Throw Away Old Stuff/Reminders – First things first, anything that reminds you of that person should be discarded. It is simply not possible to successfully get over someone, when his/her pictures are all over your room. Clean your room, closet, workplace, drawers, wardrobe, and toss away any and all reminders.

Do Not Try To Keep In Touch – It is a possibility that you guys belong to the same friend group, class, work at the same company, or have situations where you guys cross each other’s path often. Avoid direct confrontation, but do not ignore as well if you have to be at the same place. Saying ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ is not going to hurt that much. However, do not try to keep in touch, and do not even think of cyber stalking. Keep everything other than your relationship and thoughts about that person, unchanged.

Stay Active, Stay Busy – Staying busy is a good way to keep the lingering thoughts away. But, do not force yourself into it as well. Staying busy is a good way to keep negative feelings away, but do not suppress your feelings or run away from it. Embrace the change you have to go through, and mourn it, if needed. This way you would be able to accept the change in your life that you want to make, and move on in a clinical manner, even when it hurts and takes a bit of time.

Stop Regretting and Obsessing – This is the common thing that most people engage in when trying to get over someone. Whether it was your infatuation who is now engaged to someone else, or your ex you want to get over, make sure that you are not obsessing yourself with the thoughts of that person or the relationship and regretting uncontrollably. There are few questions in life that are best unanswered. Don’t be Sherlock Holmes, and try to find out answers of each and every why, what and how. Critically analysing everything would not get you anywhere, but would definitely make things even worse.

Cry It Out – And, when nothing works, lock yourself up and cry it out. It is the best way to vent out all the negative energy that you have locked in for all this while. Having a close friend around can be a good idea for some, but that is a choice you need to make yourself. In any case, crying helps. It would make you feel lighter, and at the end of it, would bring in clarity as the tears do wash away a bit of pain, one bit at a time.

Talk To Friends, Confide – Whether you are a man or a woman, boy or a girl, talking to a friend when trying to getting over someone can be really helpful. It is the best possible remedy in most of the situations like these in life, as good friends can guide you and help you move on.

Listen To Cheerful Music or Treat Yourself – Engaging in indulgence, eating out or watching your favourite movie with a bowl of your favourite ice cream is a good idea. But, don’t overdo it as well, else it might lead to self-pity. Also, listen to good music, surround yourself with positive people, friends, and things would start falling in the right partying at a night clubplace soon, and it would become much easier to get over that someone.

Keep A Journal – It is best to drain out all that you want to say or talk about in a journal. It is a good way to take out your feelings, because not everything can be shared, sometimes even with your best friend. Having a journal would help you get rid of those feelings that were suffocating you inside.

Take A Break, Go On A Vacation – If you can, taking a vacation and going away from the usual environment for a while, would help you rethink and reassess the current situation and phase in life. Many things would become much clearer, and your perspective would be sorted out, when you get enough time to think about yourself and everything that happened, or is happening.

Socialize, Party, and Meet New People – And, when you come back, there is no reason you should not start your life afresh. Party hard with your friends, go for shopping, hang out with friends, socialize, and even meet new people. Let things happen in its natural flow, and sooner than later, someone special would definitely show up.

Getting over someone you love is hard for sure, but not impossible. But, do realize that you need to get over that person, and then follow the tips mentioned above. It would guide you to the right direction, devise a strong attitude, and bring you back to life, while keeping depression and other negative feelings away.
