There are many reasons why relationships just do not work out. The end of your relationship just means you are not meant to be with that person. However, this does not mean the end of your love life. There is always hope when it comes to love, and finding someone new to share your life with is a fun journey everyone must try. If it so happens that your ex found love first, do not be too bitter about it. By the time you receive the invitation to your ex partner’s wedding, relax, take a deep breath, and read this article to offering engagement messages.

The emotions of receiving the invite can be different depending if you were the dumper or the one who was dumped. The dumper can actually feel good knowing that the ex has moved on and is now happy with his/her life. On the other hand, if you were the one who was dumped, a whole different feeling can take over you. With that said, it is still important to send a respectful engagement message. Here are some tips to get you through this predicament.

Creating the Engagement Messages for your Ex

1. Contemplate – Before doing anything, it is always wide to think about it. Contemplate on the purpose of sending your congratulations to your ex. You need to determine if you are truly sincere with your congratulations or if you have an ulterior motive with this act. It might be challenging but you need to find out if what you are doing is re-establish your communication with each other because you believe that his/her significant other is not the one for him/her and you want your ex back. Think about these scenarios before making your next move.

2. Make it Personal – In today’s modern world, sending messages has become easier and more efficient with emails, SMS and chat. When it comes to sending your engagement messages, it is always best to send a personal note. This only shows you are sincere and that you value what you once had with this person enough to send a physical note. Some wording examples when writing notes include the following:

  • “I heard from one of our mutual friends you are getting married, congratulations!”
  • “I wish you all the best on your engagement. I am really happy for you.”
  • “Congratulations, I found out you are tying the knot. I wish you and your partner the best in life.”

3. Greeting Card – If you want something already formatted, you can send a greeting card with the word congratulations printed on it. There are greeting cards that already have messages, if these words truly represent what you want to say then simply sign your name at the bottom. On the other hand, if it is a blank greeting card you can write your message like the ones suggested above. This is a reasonable option to send your engagement messages if you and your ex have not spoken in a while.

4. Social Media – As mentioned above sending messages has been made easier with technology. If you want to send your ex a message of congratulations without the fuss, one of the easiest ways is through social media sites like Facebook. Sending a personal and informal message like, “Hey! I heard you’re getting married! Congrats!” On the other hand, if you have not spoken in a while a message like, “Hey stranger, I heard you got engaged. I’m really happy for you and congratulations!”

5. Be Ready – Not everyone wants to connect with the people from their past, your ex may be one of these individuals. Be ready that your ex will not respond to your message. This is not a big issue; the important thing is that you are sincere with your congratulatory message.

6. Face-to-Face – If you and your ex did not have a bad break-up and have remained friends over time, congratulating him/her in person is a good option. When doing this, make sure to look your best and take a deep breath when approaching him/her. Remember to keep clam and avoid showing jealousy or speaking about your relationship. Simply tell your ex how happy you are for him/her and say congratulations.

The next time you are in this predicament, consider these tips and guidelines when sending your engagement messages.
