Mechanicsburg is a borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, eight miles west of Harrisburg. It is in a rich agricultural region known as the Cumberland Valley, a broad zone between South Mountain and ridge-and-valley Appalachians.

 

Formally known as Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, the city’s slogan is, “The Strength of One. The Power of Many. ™” Mechanicsburg is home of Jubilee Day™, the largest and longest-running one-day street fair in the eastern United States. The fair originated in 1923 and has continued to remain a tradition every summer and has grown to attract approximately 60,000 people annually. Attendees enjoy live music, plenty if delicious food, arts and crafts and local business specials and sales.

The Mechanicsburg Museum

This museum is the place to go for local history and information about Mechanicsburg. It has archives, galleries and a museum gift shop to showcase various exhibits. The Museum offers a walking tour of historic Main Street and explores local structures from log cabins to Victorian contemporary buildings and architecture.

Armitage Golf Course

 

An eighteen-hole regulation length golf course in Mechanicsburg, Armitage Golf Course is one of the nicest and most popular courses in the area. It is known for being fun, but also challenging, even for the true golfer. Built in 1974, this is a very clean and well-kept golf course that is also very affordable for those on a budget.

Hershey Park

About 20 miles east of Mechanicsburg is Hershey, PA, “the sweetest place on earth.” Hershey is home of Hersheypark, a fun and exciting theme park that has kept families entertained since 1905. The park has over 100 rides, 14 roller coasters, features a number of entertainment shows and venues in the Hershey Amphitheater, many places to dine and of course delicious Hershey’s chocolate.

 

Mechanicsburg is rich in history, culture and fun and definitely a place worth visiting. There are plenty of affordable places to stay in the area that are close to all of the city’s main attractions. One last note before you start planning your trip: be sure to stop in to one of the locals favorite and most highly recommended restaurants, Café Magnolia. It is a causal place, but offers some of the freshest and most delicious foods ranging from steaks and seafood to eggplant salad and soups.
