Knowhow-Now Article

Manchester is one of Britain's largest, liveliest and most diverse cities, not least in terms of the wide range of activities that can be enjoyed in and around the conurbation. Whether you're planning a shopping trip, cultural excursion or sporting pilgrimage to Old Trafford stadium, you'll doubtless find much to entertain you and your fellow travellers in this north-western city.

Manchester's bustling city centre is a haven for shoppers, so be prepared for crowds when visiting at weekends. You won't want to leave your credit card at home when exploring the designer outlets of New Cathedral Street, where you're bound to see something that catches your eye. Market Street is the place to go for bargains, though walking along the miles of stores stocking all manner of goods, you may find you end up spending more than you bargained for.

To escape the crowds of the city centre, you can spend time in some of Manchester's numerous parks, most notable Castlefield Urban Heritage Park which can be easily reached between Piccadilly Gardens and the Northern Quarter. Taking a canal ride can be a great way to experience the city, and you'll find lots of photo opportunities as you pass some of the city's most attractive landmarks.

Nights out in Manchester offer just as many opportunities for visitors and locals alike, whether you prefer to take in a theatre show at the Lowry or head to some of the city's premier bars and nightclubs. You'll be spoiled for choice with eating options in all areas of the city, whether you're craving traditional English pub grub or more exotic cuisine. The city's famous Curry Mile and Chinatown areas are not to be missed by lovers of Asian food.

If you're visiting with the kids, younger visitors are very well catered for in the city - from family-friendly hotels in Manchester to a range of attractions designed with children in mind. Some of these, such as the Museum of Science & Industry, can make equally enjoyable days out for adults too, and many of Manchester's museums and galleries are free to enter, so your weekend away won't break the bank.

Manchester also puts you close to some of England's most scenic areas, with both the Lake District and Peak District being within driving distance. Anyone interested in the city's industrial history can also follow numerous heritage trails within the city limits and in neighbouring towns and villages.
