| Title | So, You Think Organic Food Really Is Better For Your Health? |
Organic Produce, Is It Really Beneficial?
Organic food is nothing new and has been around for generations, however recently more people have been taking an interest in it and the word organic has turned into a big buzz word. Those involved in the health food industry are generating enormous profits during this hype as organic food costs more then the non-organic foods found in the shop. Keeping all this in mind, the question should be asked; is organic food really beneficial or perhaps even necessary for our bodies? Should we be paying out more money on food that is allegedly better for you?
Before I proceed I must make clear what is meant by organic. The name organic identifies something that has not been chemically modified or had chemicals used to enhance growth and longevity. The likes of synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified microbes, fabricated fertilizers and pesticides are not used with organic food. Organic meat, milk products and eggs posess zero growth hormones or antibiotics added to encourage production or growth.
The acreage thats used to cultivate organic crops will have to go through a lengthy three year process before the crops can be called organic. For the first two years the fertility of the farm land will have to be developed and only after that are crops allowed to be grown. A lot of hard work and time goes into organic food, therefore its no real shock that its more expensive. However, is all that hard work worth it? Is organic produce really going to make a significant improvement to my health?
Many folks appreciate that organic food has a more significant nutritional value then regular food. A sample of milk obtained by scientists showed up to twice as many natural antioxidants, 50% more Vitamin E and 70% more Beta Carotene then milk taken from regular cows. Organic food includes no extra substances, including fertilizers and insecticides, which can be detrimental to your health. Also, you never run the risk of consuming cancer causing toxins which is a massive benefit to selecting organic food. Although it is a personal choice, many people state that they enjoy the taste of organic food and that it is a key reason why they are happy to spend the extra money on it.
Only using organic food will as a result have a favorable effect on our environment. This is because organic food is not fed any insecticides and pesticides when it is cultivated. Although this does take a whole lot more effort and time, it has a positive effect on the environment with the absence of the chemicals that are usually used. Global warming has grown to be a serious hazard to our modern day society. The good news is that organic food is not going to use chemicals so it will not create too much pollution. When animals are not raised with the goal of selling organic foods, they are often mistreated by keeping them in tiny enclosures and force feeding them to encourage increased growth over a shorter amount of time whereas organic farmers tend to take good care of their animals, even allowing them to roam free.
So organic foods are good for the environment, your health and also helps to ensure that the animals on the farms are treated well and not abused. Of course, as mentioned at the beginning, the price of organic food can be substantially higher then normally produced food. But always remember that when buying on the organic market you are doing something good for yourself and for the environment so personally I feel it is a small price to pay.
