Panic attacks on their own are extremely difficult to deal with – after all they are sudden attacks of deep, intense terror that leave sufferers shaky sometimes for hours afterwards. But when someone suffers from severe panic attacks the problem is a thousand times more difficult to deal with because they are much harder to control and much harder to even get through. Severe panic attacks are not to be taken lightly and if someone suffers from them they should get professional help to ensure that they are able to make it through a severe panic attack.
What Causes Severe Panic Attacks?
As with all panic attacks, severe panic attacks are triggered by anxiety. That anxiety is usually caused by stress, which is usually caused by ordinary things like worries over bills or school or work. However, for some people those simple worrying thoughts can quickly spiral into terrifying scenarios that impart a feeling of impending doom that trigger severe panic attacks. The anxiety itself is usually disproportionate to the actual situation that caused it but that doesn’t matter with panic attacks; the feelings may be overblown but they are very real and cause severe panic attacks.
What Are The Symptoms Of Severe Panic Attacks?
The symptoms of severe panic attacks are essentially the same symptoms as normal panic attacks; they are just more severe and are more difficult to deal with. This is especially true when it comes to dealing with the symptoms during an actual severe panic attack because in those moments the brain is not working correctly and will not operate the way it’s really supposed to.
First, the heart will speed up in what’s called heart palpitations. People also feel discomfort in their chest, nausea and they even become sweaty – and those are just a few of the symptoms. You also have an irrational sense of fear, dizziness, weakness that can cause fainting and even trembling.
How Are Severe Panic Attacks Treated?
When it comes to severe panic attacks most doctors prescribe medication to keep anxiety levels under control because most people who suffer from them truly cannot control the attacks. However, they also like to prescribe behavioral therapy for people who suffer from severe panic attacks because if they don’t learn how to control them their whole lives can become unbearable. This therapy can sometimes last months or even years.
Severe panic attacks are painful to live with especially if they are not brought under control.
