If you've got a garage that is being underused or not used at all and would like to morph it into something fantastic, check out the following tips. The ideas in this article will actually make you wish you had more than one garage to turn into something else.
1. An art studio or craft shop. If anyone in your home is talented and creative, turn your old garage into a vivid and inspirational place for producing masterpieces. Under these circumstances, nearly anything will do in decorating so mimic Van Gogh's "Starry Night" on a full wall or splash geometric shapes on the ceiling. Make it a fun, wild place where the occupant will be able to get lost in their own little creative paradise.
2. A smoking hot entertainment room or mini-lounge. Add a cheesy lounge chandelier and a pool table, and install an entertainment system. In less than a day your garage will be the "in" place of the neighborhood for partying, playing and good times. Pop in a large-screen TV for game watching, and viola, instant "man-cave!"
3. A practical home gym. This would give you (and others in your home) absolutely no excuse to skip the exercise routines and get into shape. Clean the garage well, making sure to remove dust and mildew that could spark allergies, add a clean coat of paint or tack up a couple of motivational posters and you've got yourself a workout room. Look for equipment to fill it up with at yard sales or in want ads to avoid paying too much.
4. A useful office area. If your household is having difficulty balancing the budget or the home is just too noisy and distracting, fix yourself up an office where you can get all your work done in peace and quiet. You might also use this office as the start of something big...like that home based business you've been dreaming about for years!
5. An extra bedroom. Depending on your family's size or the number of guests you entertain, an extra bedroom might be a small miracle. Since a bedroom usually only consists of four walls and a closet, you can probably do this home improvement project solo and in no time at all. If there won't be any windows, be sure to add adequate lighting and use mirrors to brighten it up.
6. A second bathroom. Or third, whatever the case may be. Most every family could put another bathroom to good use, especially if there are teens involved. Do careful research if you're taking care of plumbing and wiring yourself as it can be costly and complicated. If you feel a lot of apprehension about a project of this magnitude, hire a consultant or contract a professional to complete it.
7. An income generating studio apartment. Given the state of our nation's economy, a small studio that could demand in excess of $500 a month could really help a family's budget out! Make sure everything is solid, simple and cannot be easily removed by a tenant. Opt for durability without getting too expensive. Also, don't fret if the arrangement seems cramped by your standards; real estate can be hard to come by these days and a single, employed person could do well living in your new studio. Plus, wouldn't you just love the extra cash?
Wasted space is an eyesore, not to mention annoying. If you've got a garage that is just gathering dust, get inspired and do something fabulous with it.
