What Is Custom Jewelry?

You may have heard about custom jewelry from a friend or read about it someplace and always wondered just what it is. Do you have precious stones that have fallen out of jewelry and want to get them placed in a ring? Have you ever looked for that perfect ring but only managed to find it in your imagination? A jeweler that makes custom pieces can help you turn your imaginary piece of jewelry into a reality.

There are many jewelers that will work with you to create your own custom jewelry. Whether it’s a ring or a necklace, as long as they have a good idea of what you want, and can verbalize what you want your end result to look like, they can create it. There are a number of places on the internet also that do the same thing, the only problem with doing all of this custom work online is that you don’t get to physically see it. They will usually supply you with an image of their progress but sometimes an image just doesn’t cut it.

The first thing you must do is either tell them in detail how you want the end result to look, or even draw them a picture. Many jewelers will create a rough drawing while you are describing the custom piece to them. Once this step is done you probably wont hear much from the jeweler until they get a preliminary piece done. This piece could be a picture of a computer generated 3D piece of jewelry, or a wax cast for you to look at and discuss any changes you want made. Once this is all done and all changes are made, you can expect for the next time you are contacted to be to tell you that your custom jewelry is ready to be picked up, or shipped if you are shopping online.

Costume jewelry is worth considering if you're going to work and don't wish to wear any jewelry that has a high value attached to it. Costume pieces of jewelry don't contain any precious metals or gemstones, which makes them highly affordable and widely available. This type of jewelry does tend to tarnish over time and cannot be shined with a polishing cloth.

Custom jewelry can take some time to complete, so if you are planning on it being a Christmas present, don’t wait till December 2nd to place your order. What better heirloom to pass down to your family than a custom piece of jewelry designed by yourself? Custom jewelry may be a little more expensive, but the end results are a lot more rewarding than a design worn by other people.
