How To Deal With Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Or BPH

Benign Prostatic Hyperpalsia (BPH) is a condition where the prostate gland is enlarged and causes many troubles to the urinary system. It usually occurs among men as they aged and is not cancerous in nature. Early symptoms of this health problem is usually unnoticeable until to the point that it is large enough to affect the urethra and causes the bladder wall to thicken and results to irritation. According to studies, prostate gland enlargement symptoms are experienced by 50 percent of men on their sixties and the percentage becomes higher up to 90 percent as they reach their eighties.

Listed below are the common symptoms experienced by men when affected by Benign Prostatic Hyperpalsia:

* Frequent urination
* Nocturia - having to urinating many times the whole night
* Leaking or dribbling urine
* Difficulty in starting to urinate
* Interrupted urination

As you have noticed, the symptoms primarily affect the urinary system. The seriousness of the Benign Prostatic Hyperpalsia does not depend on the size of the enlargement. It means that you may experience the worst symptoms even if you suffer from smaller enlargement compare to others. All these symptoms happen because of the pressure made by the enlarged prostate to the urethra affecting the normal flow of urine. Moreover, BPH increase the likelihood to develop urinary tract infection.

Some of the treatments available for Benign Prostatic Hyperpalsia are the following:

* Medications ? The two types of BPH medication are 5-alpha reductase inhibitors and alpha-adrenergic receptor blockers. Both of them work to prevent the enlargement from getting worse or may even shrink the prostate gland back to its original condition. In addition, if BPH has caused urinary tract infections, the best treatment would be antibiotic.
* Less Invasive Surgical Procedures ? Includes transurethral needle ablation, high-intensity focused ultrasound, transurethral microwave procedures and water-induced thermotherapy.
* Surgeries ? These often requires the removal of the enlarged portion of the prostate gland as a permanent solution. Examples include laser surgery, transurethral surgery and open surgery.

Any health problems if left untreated will definitely worsen the condition and may lead to major complications. The best option will be to seek for a doctor?s advice and undergo proper diagnosis.
