Everyone at some point in their lives has wanted to accomplish a task only to find a very good excuse not to do it when the opportunity presents itself. I have tried to get up early several times to exercise, only to hit the snooze button when the clock strikes six and at  other times I just cover my head real hard with a pillow.

Willpower can be defined as that inner ability that enables you overcomes the internalimprove your willpower and external desires or obstacles in your life. It is a driving force that pushes us to persevere on a decision reached. Some define it simply as self-control, I would like to define it as the ‘mental muscles’ that help us exercise restraint or accomplish goals.

Your willpower can also be viewed as an effective motor that drives you to do things, getting, achieving or accomplishing a task. Willpower is important for completing errands, tasks, making choices and accomplishing objectives. Without willpower, it is hard to start anything and hard to complete same.

This unique ability is wrongly considered as being conferred on few divinely selected individuals. The fact of the matter is that everybody can develop willpower.

If you have a tendency to be slothful and lazy, willpower can help you overcome this.

If you tend to stall or procrastinate on tasks, willpower would help you with this tendency.

Willpower improves self-confidence and respect

Building willpower will give you solid control over your life.

Willpower provides the boldness and ability to persevere through and overcome challenges. We have established that you need will power to accomplish your goals and the fact that you can build this unique unseen mental muscle. How successful you are in doing this depends on your sincerity, aspiration, and the time committed to doing same. Building willpower is a steady process that everybody can attempt.

A straightforward and successful strategy to building willpower is doing things that you would rather abstain from doing, because of laziness, procrastination shyness or any other reason. For example, you get home and have dishes to wash but you’re  also are tempted to just sit and watch the Television; in order to build your willpower you’re advised to do the dishes first.

The example above is one of many exercises that can help build your willpower. As stated earlier picture your willpower as a mental muscle and like every physical muscle they develop when you exercise them. If you want to develop your arm muscles you will be advised to lift dumbbells or do push-ups, in the same vein if you want to build your mental muscle i.e. your willpower you need to exercise them with actions as described above.

When you do this, regardless of what your natural inclination to resist you will be building your willpower.

Other examples of exercises include:

*If you have a natural inclination to eat a certain meal or take lots of sugar with your tea, take a decision to avoid doing that for a week. This will help prove that you can take control and accomplishing this means strength.

*When faced with a decision to either take a cab or walk a short distance. Take the walk instead, especially if you’re in good health condition and the distance in question isn’t too far.

The truth is once you understand this principle of building willpower you will find simple and practical exercises that you can use to build and develop this ability.

Other Healthy habits to take up that will aid your willpower development include but are not limited to the following:

Get enough Sleep - Lack of sleep makes us vulnerable to temptation, also for physiological reasons sleep is important. Willpower takes a huge amount of mental aptitude, and when we are sleep deprived; our bodies don't convey enough glucose to our brains.

Meditate for five minutes a day - Reflection provides helps you hone your concentration skills.

Lay off the Alcoholic drinks - Liquor reduces your blood glucose, a succession of studies shows can this significantly reduce your willpower. Liquor likewise decreases awareness, and self-awareness is will aid in building your will power.

Lastly, prepare for temptations before they occur - What will you do when things happen? Don't leave your response till the scenario occurs; work out a plan, however basic. If at any point you do blow it? Forgive yourself and move on.
