How To Have A Blast When Painting Your Home

Painting your home seems like a heavy task to many people, but it does not have to be that way. If you try your best to make the experience fun, it takes all of the "work" out of it. If you are not sure how to do that, you should continue reading.

Tip: Weather stripping can greatly increase your windows' efficiency. Hardware stores feature this fix relatively cheap, and it seals air in and out, thus boosting the effectiveness of your home's heating and cooling.

Music is one thing that can make anything fun. If you paint in silence, the repetitive noise of the brush hitting the way may drive you a bit batty. Put on some of your favorite music to give you something else to focus on. If you put on music that is fast, this increases the chances you will work a bit faster to keep up with the rhythm, but feel free to play whatever music you prefer.

Tip: Lampshades of simple structure and design are quite a bore. You could easily create an original lamp sage with some acrylic paint and some stencils.

If your painting project is pretty large, it may take you a good amount of time to complete it on your own. This is why you should enlist family and friends to help you. Tell them to throw on some old clothes and come and help you. While some of them may balk at doing all of this work on their day off, others will be more than happy to assist you. The more help you get, the less time it will take to get the work done.

Tip: For a simple, low-cost way to improve your bathroom's appearance, install new, coordinating metal fixtures. You can find items such as toilet paper holders, towel racks and cabinet knobs in many shapes and finishes.

Turn the painting project into a contest. Split people up into different teams, and give small prizes to the ones that get their areas painted first. Of course the idea is to get the job done swiftly, but they will be so excited about a possible prize that they will forget that this is hard work. Make sure that the rules of the contest include the fact that the job should be done very well in order to get a prize, or you may end up with walls that are not painted very thoroughly.

Tip: When you undertake any home improvement project, don't destroy things too quickly. Don't tear down a cabinet or wall until you've properly checked the structure behind it.

Do not ruin your floors by failing to put down a drop cloth. You may be asking yourself how this related to having fun, but imagine the way you will feel if your floors are damaged. Completing your entire paint job without getting any on the floor will feel like a triumph. It can be quite irritating and costly to have paint removed from floors, so do yourself a favor and cover them up.

Tip: Prior to beginning work on any electrical appliance or lighting fixture, make sure the circuit breaker switch for that area of the house is turned off. Touching live wires when the power is on is a serious mistake that can lead to electrocution and even death.

Choose a paint that already contains primer. This will make a big difference, because that will be less painting you have to do. In order to have a well-painted wall, you should put a couple of coats of paint. Add a coat of primer, and it will extend the time it takes to complete the job, which is why you should buy a combination paint. It will cost a little more, but it will be worth it to minimize your completion time.

You can greatly improve the way your house looks by painting it. Even though this is an extensive job, you can do one or all of the things above to make things more fun. You will have a ball, and before you know it the entire project will be complete.
