Knowhow-Now Article

As a meditation coach, I began developing an inner sea of silence and inner center of power and awareness early on. I was not easily swayed by the winds of change. This inner calm has helped me tremendously in many situations. If you know that you are not the world and its events but unbreakable and invulnerable awareness infinite, if you know that you are an eternal soul, then you don't really need that much strength and courage to practice calm and fortitude.

If I take $1000 away from you, will you lose your calm?

If I give you $1000, will you lose your calm?

If so, you are unaware of the illusory nature of the world. If not, then how much would I have to give you or take away for you to lose your center and balance? What would it take? I know someone who is currently practicing remaining poised, calm and strong at $28 000 debt. They are ready to close her accounts and take her belongings. Will she remain the calm eye at the center of the cyclone? If not, she will be swept away by the winds of change. But if she can stay calm, she will turn this event around to her empowerment and to her favor. But not only negativity tries to get us off balance and all worried. Positivity tends to do that too, if it is "too much". I bet if I gave that woman $28 000 to pay her debts she would feel unwell about it. If I gave her 28 Million she might get a shock. How much would you have to lose or get to lose your center? What is your "threshold of overwhelm"?

Some people think I'm cold, dissociated or crazy because I don't react like a maniac to various events. In a car accident I calmly get back up, wipe off my shirt and lend a hand to people stuck in the car. When I win in the lottery I calmly announce that to my friends, flip the ticket aside and continue whatever I was doing before. I am not bragging - this type of behavior is the result of 15 years of Meditation. It is a state of emotional detachment. I am able to feel great love and humor but it is very difficult for me to get all worked up and worried about things. "But don't you understand??? You just won the lottery!!! Now you don't have to work anymore!!! Why are you still sitting there working???" someone might ask. And I respond: "Because I already happen to be doing what I always wanted to do if I were rich. Which is to be a writer and a coach. I don't want to do anything other". People often presume that a lottery win will enable them to do something they could not already be doing before that. But that kind of thinking is off. It is widespread, but it doesn't work. If you weren't doing what you love before winning the lottery, you won't be doing what you love after winning the lottery. All power comes from within, not from outside events. Yes, winning the lottery is nice. But it's even nicer to feel a sense of love and joy at ones profession. To create remarkable things is more fun than buying several cars.

How much does it take before you lose your calm? What would others have to say? What negative or positive statement would someone have to make for you to forget your entire path and go haywire? Test it out. See what makes you go overboard and why. And try to expand your threshold.
