Knowhow-Now Article

Like many UK cities, Liverpool really comes alive during the summer months, when sunnier weather and warmer temperatures encourage more locals and visitors to head out and discover the city's unique charms.

If you're thinking of heading to Liverpool, you could get even more out of your visit by timing your trip to coincide with one of the numerous festivals and other special events coming to the city during the central months of the year. Liverpool's impressively diverse cultural heritage - as a home of sport as well as music, literature and other arts - makes it the natural place to stage all manner of festivals aimed at celebrating these aspects of its history and present.

One of the newest and most popular of these events is the Liverpool Summer Pops festival, a growing summer celebration of music that regularly attracts some of the biggest names in the business - from music legends such as Bob Dylan, The Who and Elton John to best-selling current acts. The Matthew Street Music Festival is another highlight of the summer calendar, which sees a huge number of bands playing on outdoor stages for free, as a means of showcasing the city's latest home-grown talent.

No discussion of Liverpool's musical heritage would be complete without mentioning the Fab Four of course, and the annual Beatles Day held each July helps to ensure that the legendary pop group will never be forgotten. Featuring tribute acts playing at the Cavern Club and a large-scale concert at the Echo Arena, as well as all manner of Beatles memorabilia and associated stalls and entertainments, this is a popular event for die-hard Beatles fanatics and casual fans alike, and all proceeds go to charity.

Even if you're not planning on attending a festival, there's still plenty to look forward to when visiting Liverpool in the summer - especially with the city's numerous public parks and gardens placing it among the greenest and most pleasant cities in the UK. Taking an open-top bus or walking tour can be a great way to orient yourself in the city when you first arrive, and to learn a little more about its landmarks and history - from the childhood homes of John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney to dockside attractions celebrating Liverpool's maritime heritage.

There's lots to see and do in Liverpool this summer - just make sure you arrange your hotels in Liverpool before you travel, if you're visiting during festival season.
