A substantial increase in people who are now willing to make fraudulent personal injury claims to enhance their income.

There is an increase in people making exaggerated or even false personal injury claims through the no win no fee system, is now a widely held belief amongst eighty nine percent of solicitors today, according to research results from LV.

Three out of five say there has been a rise in overstated injuries in the last ten years and 40 percent said they have seen a surge in people faking injuries since the recession began.

Post traumatic stress disorder, strained muscles and whiplash are the most commonly exaggerated types of personal injury, with the favourite choice of incident for these injuries to take place being that of car crashes.

Almost two thirds of the lawyers taking part believe that the almost incessant advertising on television of these services is a key factor when it comes to the increase of falsified personal injury claims submissions, as there is now the perception that it is an easy money maker.

Consequently two thirds of solicitors now study in much greater detail all submitted personal injury claims before making a decision on their viability.

One law firm specialising in the investigation and handling of suspected fraudulent personal injury claims on behalf of insurance companies echoes what is being said by LV and confirms that the experience of their own fraud unit is that some types of insurance fraud are now reaching epidemic proportions.

Personal injury claims fraud is not a victimless crime and does not involve a cheeky Del Boy type character getting one over the insurance companies, it is a criminal act that affects all of us as we are the ones left paying for their actions and are hit with ever increasing premiums.

The technical claims director at LV, Martin Milliner states that authentic cases are definitely a cause for compensation but reiterates that those drivers who choose to falsify or overstate injuries are in fact committing a crime and should be sought out by means of vigorous investigation carried out by the solicitors.
