Always thoroughly read the product label prior to buying or using it. Not all pesticides are right for you. Certain ones can't be used in certain locations. In addition, different pesticides treat different pests. Therefore, you must be sure that your pesticide is safe and effective. Do not hesitate to contact the manufacturer of the product if you have any questions.

When you find a grain weevil, you know there is some food source available to them, so hunt it down and get it sealed up. Keeping your home clean is the best way to get rid of this pest and ensure that they don't come back time and time again.

Bedbugs are hard to eliminate since they like hiding. Before you call the exterminator, seal off any cracks or crevices. By doing so, you can stop bedbugs from emerging from such places after the exterminator has left.

Tip: Put some steel wool in any holes so rodents cannot crawl through. When the mice are trying to get through, they will eat them and die.

If you see ants in your home, follow them. This should help you discover where they are getting in at. Most of the time they will find a crack or crevice near a window or the molding. Once you know where the problem is originating from, put down a little laundry detergent (assuming you don't have children or pets that can get to it) to create a temporary fix.

If you are having problems with flying insects in your home, then you need to fix your home's screens. Having your screens rip-free and properly secured will keep flying pests out as well as crawling pests too. If your screens have holes in them, patch them or replace them.

Try using orange oil to keep insects at bay. Insects do not like the smell of orange oil as it is poisonous to many of them. The added benefit is that you can use it to clean your home. If you have not yet tried orange oil you definitely should.

Picking up some cheap caulk can really help you control your pest problems. Foggers and sprays are unable to penetrate walls and behind the cabinets where bugs like to live and hide. The caulking works to seal up cracks, preventing pests from being able to come in and out.

Tip: Drains are popular places for pests to hide. Make sure you check and clean them monthly, either by running a snake through the drain or else simply by pouring some liquid cleaner down them to flush them out.

Look online for tips about dealing with pests. There are countless forums and blogs for you to find new ideas about how to control the pests you are dealing with. They can be especially helpful if you feel you have tried everything. Someone can give you an idea you have not tried.

If you have children, explain to them the rules around the house for eating. Make sure that you designate only one area of the home for eating to help reduce any infestations that you may have. If all members of the house are responsible for what they do, you will have less of a pest problem.

Search your attic for any holes in the foundation or in the insulation. You may not hear them, but mice can be living in your attic without your knowing. Simply take a look around a few times a year for any tell tale signs can help you stave off larger infestations.

Seal any opening into your home well. Rodents can find their way into even tiny openings. Mice and rats can squeeze through incredibly small spaces, so make sure you caulk up even the smallest of cracks. Keeping rodents out of your home is the best way to prevent an infestation.

Tip: Utilize plastic containers for storing dry goods. Boxes and bags are a lot easier for pests to get into than plastic containers.

If you believe you have bed bugs, you can help control the population by washing your clothes. However, you have to be careful when doing so. Put all of your clothing into a plastic bag. Seal it up to take it to the laundry room. Wash it all in the hottest water possible and then dry it on high heat. Remember that it is very hard to eradicate bed bugs on your own, so call around and see if a company will do a free inspection for you.

Be sure and get rid of any fallen trees in your yard. Cut up the branches and the trunk to use for firewood. Give it away or sell it if you don't have a use for it yourself. However, remember to deal with the stump too. Stumps are large pieces of dead wood that may attract termites.

To ensure ants don't move into your home, mix 1c sugar and 1c borax in a 1 quart jar. Hammer holes into the lid with a nail and then use the jar to spread the mixture around your foundation, doors, windows and the baseboards on the inside, too. The sugar attracts ants while the Borax kills them.

Flowers and plants should be placed further from your home as bugs are attracted to these. Additionally, line the perimeter of your home with outdoor tiles to discourage insects and rodents from entering. You can have open windows if there are no flying bugs in the area.

Tip: While fleas are difficult creatures, some things do work to eliminate them and their eggs. First, you need to vacuum every day.

Mice enjoy eating grains and cereal. This is something you have to make sure you don't leave lying around in your kitchen. Mice will sink their teeth into almost anything! If having mice in the home is common for you, remove the food supply and place them in high cabinets and use sealed containers. They have a fantastic sense of smell, so don't underestimate these little critters.

Check to see if your windows or screens are cracked or ripped as insects can easily penetrate any inconsistencies in your infrastructure. If you see that a seal has been broken, make sure that you fix this or get it replaced immediately so that it does not become an issue in the future.
