If you have some experience in Qigong, it would be beneficial to read over each exercise, because building a solid foundation is the key to success.

Basic Diaphragmatic breathing exercise is the first lesson. Qigong breathing exercise is the most important and will generate plus circulate the chi energy for a dynamic health, energy and longevity. It is commonly known as slow breathing or diaphragmatic breathing, these techniques can make efficient use of oxygen.

First is to do this while lying down or in a sitting position. If you are sitting make sure you maintain good posture and not slouching, but still in a relaxed position. Inhale slowing, visualizing filling your diaphragm with air. Pause briefly for about half a second before exhaling. As you breathe out, see your lower abdomen collapse within itself, releasing all the air. Remember to pause before you start this exercise again.

The second is referred to as alternative nostril breathing which is a brain exercise that is calming and relaxing, but also easy to learn and only takes a few minutes of your time. First step is to assume a neutral meditation posture. Use your thumb and index finger to press down on one nostril as you alternate breathing through one nostril. Start by pressing down on the right nostril as you breathe in through the left nostril. Continue this process and switch between the left and right nostril several times. Practice your breathing from the previous basic diaphragmatic breathing. It good to keep in mind to have your lips gently closed, tongue resting against the ridge of your upper teeth and palate. Just repeat this for approximately ten to 30 minutes per sitting. If you are a beginner then do so for only five minutes of practice.

By alternating your breathing between the left and right nostrils, you are creating a healthy brain development. This brain exercise will help with mental clarity and alertness, giving you energy and vitality. This Qigong exercise will cleanse the body of toxins and contaminants and frees you of ailments that result from these toxins in your body. If you have a lot toxicity in your body, than only practice these breathing exercises for only short periods of time.

One thing to keep in mind while practicing these Qigong breathing exercises is that some beginners complain that they feel breathless while doing these techniques. This is because they push themselves too hard. If this is your first time at these type of breathing exercises, be sure that you only inhale about 80-90% of your level of capacity. This will give you some room to pause for that extra second or two in your breathing before exhaling.
