The Reason Why There More Cases Of Hair Loss In Men

One of the perpetual questions regarding inter-gender health is this: why are there more males suffering from hair loss compared to women who are similarly situated? Surely, the main causes of hair loss are factors that both genders could experience. Stress, for example, chooses no sex. Both males and females are susceptible to tension, hence, compelling the hair follicles to hibernate into a resting phase called Telogen Effluvium.

Both genders are also exposed to hereditary circumstances that could contribute to hair loss. Telogen Effluvium could stimulate latent genes that would trigger Alopecia. Genes are carried by people, regardless of their sex, yet hair loss in men is still more prevalent.

Tip: If you are scheduled to begin any kind of chemotherapy treatment, go ahead and shave your head or trim it very short. This also helps to give you a feeling of being in control, which in turn helps your self-confidence while going through chemotherapy.

Both genders likewise suffer some health problems. A variety of health problems, of course, can also cause the death of hair follicles. This is especially true for ailments or diseases that damage the blood vessel linings. Blood vessels produce endothelium-derived relaxing factor (EDRF) which the hair needs to relax. Minus this component, the hair would be subjected to so much stress that its follicles would eventually die. Heart ailments and diabetes are two of the most infamous diseases that deteriorate the blood vessel linings.

So, with everything being equal, how come there are more cases of hair loss in men? The difference between the occurrences of Alopecia among men and women is so great that one would immediately think that hair loss is restricted to males.

Tip: Meditating can help you to relax and, by reducing stress, help stop excessive hair loss. When your mind and body are stressed, scalp blood vessels constrict, which eventually can lead to hair loss.

Well, the culprit for this is the make hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is said to be ten times more powerful than testosterone. As a result, too much DST in a man's system can cause an imbalance that would result in hair loss, which may be as rapid or as gradual as the amount of DHT in one's body.

DHT level can be offset via prescribed medication. Propecia, the first ever hair loss pill approved by the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) is perhaps the most popular medication against hair loss in men. Propecia balances the DHT in one's system with Finasteride.

Though it is true that hair loss in men is a more common occurrence, this doesn't mean that baldness is a fate that we should just accept. There are many cures for hair loss. But to pursue these cures, an understanding about why Alopecia occurs should be attained. Then and only then can we effectively combat hair loss and enjoy the aesthetic and personal benefits of a healthy crown.
