What Are The Signs Of Being Depressed?

Depression is something that a lot of people deal with all around the world. You may be wondering if this is something that will pass, or is something that you're going to have to take care of in another way. Here are some signs that you may be dealing with a little more than just a bad day.

Tip: One way to combat depression is to stay socially active. If you feel depressed and down, you might not want to do your usual activities.

Are you no longer interested in what you used to love to do? Sometimes this is because you're depressed. If you've just quit going after your dreams or doing your hobbies and you don't really feel the urge to get up and go after anything, chances are you're suffering from a chemical imbalance. If these feelings don't pass after a little bit of time, you should see if you can get into touch with a doctor so you can get started on working through your depression.

Tip: Don't get caught in a loop of negativity connected with symptoms of depression. Dwelling on your negative feelings can also make matters much worse.

Another sign of depression is if you're sleeping a lot more or a lot less than you used to. People that just don't get out of bed may be depressed because they don't feel the drive to get out there and get on with life. People that stay up too much because their mind is racing about all of the things that are going wrong may have depression as well. It's also not good to not sleep the same way you used to because if you're not getting the right amount of sleep, it can start to play tricks on your mind.

Tip: An effective way to deal with your depression is developing hobbies or outside interests. You might be depressed because you are not participating in any activities.

Are you taking drugs or drinking alcohol to make you feel better? While these things may help you to get through your day sometimes, in the end they're just going to leave you feeling a lot worse than you already do. After you build up a tolerance to these things you need more and more just to feel normal, and you may start acting in ways that you never would have acted before. This can lead to you hanging out with the wrong people or losing your job which will cause you so many more problems. Get help with addictions by seeing about going to a rehab center. Don't just quit drugs or drinking abruptly without medical help.

Tip: The role of the antidepressant is to help balance the neurochemicals of the brain. Bear in mind that they are not the whole answer, but are most effective when combined with other strategies such as an exercise routine, therapy sessions and an overall effort to improve your life.

If you feel like hurting yourself or other people at this moment or have been feeling like that, you need to call someone and tell them about your thoughts. There should be a place that is state run where you live. Just look up a suicide hotline on the Internet and you should be able to find a number where you can talk to someone about these thoughts. This is a medical emergency and you can also call 911 to tell them about this so that they can get someone out there to see you.

If you're getting depressed, then you probably should get some kind of help. Use what you've learned here to see if you're just fighting off a bad day, or if it's something more serious. In either case, don't hesitate to call a medical professional if you think things are so bad you can't control yourself.
