Knowhow-Now Article

The United States is a nation filled with sports fans. Tourists can gain a better understanding of American culture by attending professional sporting events and touring the stadiums of America's best loved teams. With basketball, baseball and American football being the population's three most popular sports, those are the type of athletic events you may want to attend during your visit.

To begin, baseball is often called "America's favourite pastime" and one of the best places to witness the longstanding tradition is at Chicago's Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs. Unlike many modern-day arenas, Wrigley Field is one of the rare stadiums that looks almost exactly the same as it did when it was first built (way back in in 1914). Other classic American baseball stadiums include Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. For the true baseball experience, you can grab a cold beer and a hotdog from the concession stand or you can flag down one of the concession venders who roam the aisles throughout the game.

Another sport to experience in the USA is basketball. Though professional basketball is exciting to watch, basketball at the collegiate level is also extremely competitive and entertaining. If your visit to the States coincides with the March Madness college basketball tournament, you can book tickets to a tournament game for a truly exhilarating experience. Some of the biggest basketball universities in the country are the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, the University of Kansas and Indiana University, Bloomington.

Finally, going to an American football game is one of the best ways to take in the nation's uniquely enthusiastic culture. Football fans enjoy "tailgating" outside the stadiums for both university-level and professional teams. The Seattle Seahawks are known for having some of the best fans in the NFL, and their stadium, Quest Field, is one of the loudest in the league. Another football stadium to experience is Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay packers. Green Bay fans are nicknamed "cheeseheads" and you can join them in the fun by sporting a large cheese-shaped hat during the game.

As you can see, there are a range of sports arenas in America just waiting to be explored. Though attending live sporting events is one of the best ways to experience the U.S. sports scene, you can also take tours of the stadiums on non-game days. This will allow you to get up close to the court or field and experience the arenas from the point of view of the athletes. You can see if the stadium uses fake grass or if it opts for natural turf and, if touring a basketball arena, you can learn the purpose of each line painted on the court.
