Knowhow-Now Article

Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, recognizing her 60 years on the throne, is marked by a number of events throughout 2012. The Queen is only the second British monarch to celebrate this type of jubilee. If you’re thinking of attending one of the very special Diamond Jubilee events, now is the time to book your trip. Here are some tips for celebrating the Diamond Jubilee in style.

Firstly, start planning now. Although there are many events in honour of Queen Elizabeth II held throughout the year, the primary celebrations will occur during the June bank holiday weekend at the start of June. Hotels and other accommodation will fill up, so start making headway on this right away. You may want to consider staying in London whether or not you’re attending a Diamond Jubilee event there. London has plenty of attractions to keep you busy, including Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace, to name just a few.

If you’re planning to be in London for the June 2 to June 5 weekend, you may want to partake in the Big Jubilee Lunch, a chance to share lunch with friends and neighbours. The Queen is encouraging those in Britain to come together for lunch on June 3, so look out for a street party of sorts and join in the fun. After lunch, join the thousands of people lining the banks of the River Thames for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, a procession of up to 1,000 boats, some carrying members of the royal family.

If you’re in the city for longer, honour the Queen by treating yourself and those you’re travelling with to high tea at one of the top hotels or restaurants, like Fortnum & Mason's St James's restaurant. After a spot of tea, take one of London’s famed black cabs to the London Eye at sunset. Seeing the city from this view is a definite must. Even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, you should still be able to see all along the River Thames, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf and the Tower of London. And if your goal is to celebrate the Jubilee in style, you’ll have to head out on the town at night. Check out some of the city’s top clubs, like Cable, Great Suffolk Street Warehouse or Plastic People.

If you’re thinking of visiting Britain for one or more of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee events, now is the time to book your trip. Plan ahead to get the best deals on flights and accommodation. If you’re staying in London, you may want to check out hotels near Trafalgar Square. You’ll be near enough to the Diamond Jubilee events, and you’ll be in a central location for exploring the rest of the city’s attractions. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops in Covent Garden, making it one of the best places to stay in London. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Britain at its best. This is a unique moment in Britain's history, and witnessing it for yourself is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
