Knowhow-Now Article

Every year, music lovers save up their pennies, don their wellington boots and pack up their tents in hope of seeing some of their favourite bands live on stage. With many festivals taking place in the sunshine like Benicassim in Spain, Rock Coats Festival in Tenerife and the famous Coachella in sunny California, it can be tempting to ditch the rainy UK for a festival abroad, but this can be expensive once you factor in flight prices. The UK plays host to hundreds of art and music festivals every year; so consider taking the weekend off, braving the weather and saving your money for a ticket to one of many fun soaked music festivals in Great Britain.

Rockness is held in Scotland on the banks of Loch Lomond. The first ever festival was held in June 2006 and it has grown in size each year since then. The festival itself has seen many exclusive performances from bands like The Manic Street Preachers, Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers, alongside many other indie and alternative acts. Known as the 'most beautiful festival in the world', each year Clune Farm, Dores, enjoys an influx of music fans (over 30, 000 people attended last year), and they are hoping for even more this coming summer.

Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts attracts visitors from around the world who come to see not only chart topping music acts but comedy, dance, theatre and cabaret acts. The festival was started by Michael Eavis, a local Somerset farmer who decided to run a music event originally called 'Pilton Festival' after seeing Led Zeppelin play at Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in 1970. The festival has grown in size every year and has since become a sell- out event.

Rock and metal festival Download is held in June every year at Donnington Park in Derby. The event is owned and managed by Live Nation, an American entertainment company and was only expanded from 2, to 3 days in 2005. This year, Rockers can look forward to performances from acts like Metallica, Black Sabbath, and The Prodigy. With ticket sales much sought after, they have been known to sell out in 24 hours.

Bestival is held in September in Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight. The first ever Bestival, attracted around 10, 000 people and it has since grown to number over 55, 000 in 2010. Voted the best major festival by the UK Festival Awards in 2010, the event's fourteen stages have seen the likes of The Cure, Friendly Fires and Primal Scream and are looking forward to another great year, with a great line up for 2012.

Last but not least is the ever popular T in the Park. With this year's line-up featuring some big names in the music industry like Florence and the Machine, it's set to be a fantastic weekend. Located in Balado, Kinross-shire, two- day festival T in the Park pulls in over 65,000 people each year. Attendees are obviously not put off by the cold Scottish weather, with 39% of people saying they will attend their favourite music festival this summer whatever the weather according to a recent rewards surveys. It even has some fairground attractions, like the big wheel and many concessions stalls and shops where you can enjoy an ice cold beer or a burger straight off the barbeque.
