There are plenty of Christmas films that feature real humans, cartoons, anime characters, animals, and puppets as the main characters of a title. Adding to the list of leads are virtual actors and actresses such as Barbie and her doll friends. Barbie started out as a virtual actress in one movie during 1987. Since then, she has played roles as a hero in saving people or a kingdom.

Included in her list of movies are Christmas film specials. The movie Barbie in the Nutcracker shows Barbie, who plays herself, tells her little cousin about the story of the Nutcracker. The scene suddenly changes and we now find Barbie playing Clara in the story of the Nutcracker. During the holiday, Clara’s aunt visited their home bringing gifts. One of the presents was a Nutcracker, which unfortunately broke when his brother Tommy tried to get it. Clara fixed its arm and then fell asleep only to wake up seeing the Nutcracker fighting the mouse king. Clara tried to help but got shrunk by the mouse instead. Together with the Nutcracker, they traveled to a kingdom to break the spell through the sugarplum princess. In the end, the mouse king was shrunk by his own magic while Clara, who was actually the sugarplum princess, broke the curse. The mouse king in a desperate attempt snatched Clara’s necklace that transported her back to the real world. She was sad because of her separation with the Nutcracker but was delighted when her aunt introduced her to a friend named Eric, the Nutcracker. The story closes with Barbie finishing the story for her cousin. This film is considered a story within a story.

In Barbie: A Perfect Christmas, Barbie together with her family, Stacie, Chelsea, and Skipper went for a vacation in New York. They planned to spend the Christmas holidays together in the city for new adventures and they got a very special adventure in an unexpected way. During a snowstorm, their plane landed in a remote place instead of New York City. The sisters had to stay in an inn and all their plans for Christmas are ruined because of this detour. In that small town, they met kind-hearted people who treated them well and accepted them in the town. Barbie, appreciating the town’s love for their visitors, thought of a plan to thank them. The sisters organized a concert for the townspeople as a way of celebrating Christmas with them and thanking them for their gift of generosity that season. The movie tells people that Christmas is not about finding the perfect holiday vacation or present. It is about spending time with your family and real friends in the spirit of generosity.

Barbie has immortalized numerous stories and taught many kids good values. All her films centers on being confident with oneself, possessing good values, never giving up your dreams, and courage to face everything head on. A perfect movie for daughters this season, this virtual actress can teach us how celebrating Christmas can become more meaningful for everyone.
