Knowhow-Now Article

It’s that time of the year again when you feel excited about your new journey, the upcoming two years that you are going the spend at your new campus, exploring life, making new friends, and most importantly, making yourself capable enough for the corporate world. Yes, I am talking about your B-School, wherein you get to be mentored by top notch faculties from different walks of life and get to learn from their experiences in the industry.

Another major aspect of getting into a prestigious management school is that most of them have this incredible rule of making you wear formal attire in the college premises. If not on all the days, it is mandatory to be worn on the weekdays, and on weekends, the students are supposed to wear smart casuals while on the campus.

Talking about the male group first, they are expected to wear a nicely ironed shirt along with properly fitted trousers. The shirt should be absolutely formal, preferably in basic hues like white, light blue, light green, etc that can be worn in combination with dark colored trousers. The shirt can be either plain or with some stripes in decent colours, so that they reflect the appropriate corporate look. Shirts with checks are also acceptable as long as they are not too gaudy or dark-colored. The trousers also should be nicely fitted and properly ironed. The tie is optional and if worn, should be in accordance with the colour of the shirt, or any other decent colour to suit your personality.

The shoes should also be formal. No sports shoes or sneakers are allowed. Preferred colours are black, brown, or cherry. The hair should be cut according to one’s body type and shape of the face. And more important is to comb the tresses properly so that they do not give an overall shabby look.

The girls have a choice of going for either Indian formals or western formals. The Indian formal include salwar-kameez, or a churidaar with a nice kurta. Colour selection plays a crucial role here because your attire should adhere to the corporate code of conduct, and at the same time, it must be in accordance with your body type and skin complexion. Selecting too gaudy colours and clothes with more shiny work like embroidery or mirror-work will not be a wise decision. The formal attire comprises of shirts and trousers, and might also include formal skirts (long and knee-length).

The shirt should be nicely stitched and in appropriate colours. Keep your accessories minimal, and whatever is worn should be absolutely decent. The footwear may include shoes or sandals, completely formal. Bright and shiny slippers are a big no-no. The hair should have a proper cut and combed nicely.

Vanguard Business School, based in Bangalore, is one of those prestigious B-Schools in India, which completely favors the dress code for management students. This is for the benefit of students as it will inculcate a corporate feeling in them. They want to make them prepared for the placement season and also the corporate work culture. At the same time, they understand the charm of being in the student life, thus allowing casual wear on weekends.
