Edinburgh is known for its historic sites and beautiful natural setting. Just up from the White Hart, ‘Oink’ on Victoria Street serves up the best pulled pork sandwich in town. You’ll know you’re at the right place when you see a full hog roast sitting in the window- not for the faint of heart (and probably not the best place to take a vegetarian!).
Another great lunch spot in Edinburgh is the famous ‘Elephant House’ café on George the 4th Bridge. While this café is most famous as the place where JK Rowling wrote the beginnings of her Harry Potter series, it is also a brilliant eatery in its own right. Make sure to save room for something sweet after lunch, as the Elephant House has an array of delicious shortbreads and cakes.
Finally, the ‘Mosque Kitchen’ pretty much has it all. It’s a unique cultural experience, a great meal and a bargain all in one! The Mosque Kitchen was originally just the cafeteria of the city’s mosque, located near the university. The curries became so popular that it has since expanded to accommodate more diners, particularly during the busy lunch hour.
Thus, there are so many great places in Edinburgh to enjoy a delicious midday meal. From fine dining to delicious bargains, you can find it all in this burgeoning food city.
