Knowhow-Now Article

Once I settled in New York City, with a good apartment in an ideal location I thought I would stay in this part of the city for a while.

However this was about to completely change when I was offered my perfect job, on the other side of town I knew I had to move and more importantly break my lease.

There are many pitfalls when breaking a lease, some that can be tricky to avoid, however with the assistance of leaserelief.com, I managed to break my lease easily.

When I first settled in New York City, I rented an apartment in Lower Manhattan right next door to my office. I was grateful that I didn't have far to travel into work, and my apartment was in a safe neighbourhood. After working at my job for almost a year I started to look for new jobs, however I was unsuccessful so agreed to continue my lease.

Just before Christmas last year I was called up by a firm I had applied to and they wanted me to visit to talk about an vacancy, after two long interviews, I got the job and was really happy. However there were some disadvantages, my new office was in Upper East Side the other side of the New York City and ideally I wanted to move relocate.

After looking for apartments in that area of the city, I had my mind set on moving to the Upper East Side. The area was perfect, my friends lived there and it was a good neighbourhood with plenty to see and do. I found my dream apartment that overlooked Central Park, however I realised that I couldn't move into it or even secure a deposit on a new apartment without breaking my current lease, but how to do this I didn't know where to start.

I searched the internet relentlessly for solutions, instead I found horror stories and accounts of bad encounters by others that had broken their lease. I started to research the rights available to me, it is important to know the rights of tenants when breaking a lease, as you know what you are or not entitled to. I scheduled a meeting with my landlord to speak about matters further.

Because I was a good tenant with up to date payment, pleasant to deal with and apartment kept clean, my landlord agreed to release my from my lease six months early. It paid off to inquire about my rights as it made me aware of what I was entitled to and how I could make the process easier. I helped my landlord to find a new tenant and paid my rent fully until then and within two months I had moved into my new apartment.

Lease relief can be difficult and on some instances a landlord can even refuse to break the contract. My best advice is to be a good tenant and to read up on and be aware of your rights.
