How Japanese Geisha Music Keeps Up With Time

The Geisha is very beautiful, strong, smart, determined and talented. Brought by years of training, when they emerge as a Maiko and then as a Geisha, they are portraits of skills and talents. These ladies can dance, sing and play instruments of music such as the shamisen. The Geisha is an artist and the Japanese Geisha music is a strong influence to one‘s life and work.
Shamisen, is a traditional musical instrument that almost every Geisha learns to play. Even those who prefer to dance than sing, learns to play this instrument to have a better understanding of music to perform better. It accompanies the Geisha wherever she may go as they may be summoned to play as a professional to entertain not only men but the public. They show their musical capabilities as musicians whenever they play for people in dinner shows and musical recitals.
Up to the present day, the Japanese Geisha music is surviving because it is a great cultural inspiration for many. Yet, innovations and technology cannot be stopped from encroaching into the traditional Geisha music that infuses certain changes. For instance, these days, the same music can already be generated using high-tech gadgets and sound systems instead of playing a shamisen. There is a free download of this music through the internet. Using an iPhone or an iPod, this type of music can already be played.
This means that while the Geisha music is surviving, the musical instrument is slowly dying. Who would want to learn the instrument when the same music can be played anytime from an IPod or iPhone. These mean that the skills that are part of being a trained Geisha are becoming threatened if not irrelevant. Will this further slip into the irrelevance of the Geisha as a culture?
The thing that most people love about technology is that it is very convenient. To hear Japanese Geisha music, one no longer needs a shamisen. While many will argue that, there is nothing better than the authentic, modern musicians and young people certainly believe otherwise. It is safe to say that this is a century when people can get to enjoy life and music better as one enjoys the best of both worlds.
