How To Pack Smarter, Better And Faster

When you have to pack your bags, you may tackle it with great abandon. You may throw anything you think you might need in a bag and then pray for the best. This will guarantee failure every time you try it. With a little planning, you can take on packing more like a project at work. Do your research by reading this article and you'll be ready to have a successful outcome instead.

Tip: When traveling by airplane, it is important that you think ahead. Many of the major airports are situated in and around big cities, so you need to plan ahead to avoid any delays, especially during heavily congested periods like rush hour.

Your carryon bag needs to adhere to the limits placed upon it by the airline. That means it has to be within the maximum measurements, including weight. Aim to carry no more than 20 pounds of stuff with you on the plane. Find out what the restrictions are for your airline, though, as 20 pounds may actually exceed them. The more you know before you fly, the better.

Tip: Even on an international flight, you should be able to provide your own needs. If you really need headphones, a blanket and a pillow to be comfortable while flying, you should bring your own on board with you.

Lost bags happen to everyone, so you must be sure that you know where to buy replacement items near your hotel. You should also know which stores are available so that you can pack lighter by picking up simple toiletries and other items at your destination instead. Sometimes this is a must when baggage restrictions are very tight.

Tip: Get a good workout in before leaving on a flight. Taking a long flight can be tedious.

The smartest way to pack a bag is by using a checklist. This list needs to include everything you want to bring, from extra batteries for your camera to snacks for your journey. Once you are done, pack the list as well. You can pull it out again when you are ready to come back home to ensure you don't forget anything at your hotel.

Tip: Make sure to tip the bell station and the housekeeper appropriately. Tipping the bellhop around $1 per bag and the housekeeping staff around $2 to $5 per day is certainly not excessive.

In order to reuse the clothing you bring with you, you must keep it dry and try to keep it clean. Tuck a napkin in your shirt when you eat messy foods, and wash yourself frequently so that your own smell doesn't transfer to your clothes. Bring a separate outfit for bedtime so you aren't wearing your clothing for an additional eight hours every night. That will extend the life of the items you bring with you.

Tip: Select a pair of shoes you will comfortable in and can remove easily for air travel. This makes security checks easier since you can easily slip them off.

Try not to buy too much on your trip or you may find packing to come home becomes a disaster. If you need a pair of flip flops to go to the pool or to get a pedicure, throw them out before you return. If you want an ice bucket for your drinks in your room, buy a plastic sand pail and ditch it on your way back. Try to buy disposable items and only buy high quality pieces if you plan to bring them home with you, and keep those purchases to a minimum.

There is no reason to travel if you don't enjoy it, but stress can make even a fun trip go sour. Now that you have this advice fresh in your mind, you should be ready to make the packing part of your project a piece of cake. Once you have your bags all ready, you'll realize a huge weight is off your shoulders. Enjoy the moment and have a great trip!
