Sometimes users may find that some programs are not listed in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel no matter the programs are just installed or installed long time ago. And also sometimes they would find that some programs were previously listed in Add/Remove Programs may no longer be listed. This situation would be quite annoying especially when you have to uninstall those programs but you just cannot find them in the Add/Remove Programs tool! Don’t worry because you can delete those unwanted programs in the following ways.

Method One: Run the installation again.

If you cannot find the program in the Add/Remove Programs tool and there is no option to uninstall it, you can find the installation of this program and try to reinstall it. The installation program may detect this program is already installed and provide an option to uninstall it.

Method Two: Run the Uninstall Program in the Uninstall Folder

Under the Winnt folder, there would be some folders’ names contain a “$” at the start and end. You can open these folders to find whether there is an uninstall program inside.

The spuninst.exe is an uninstall program that in the folder with a $ at the start and end of the folder name.

Method Three: Use the Uninstall Command Displayed in the Registry

1. Go to the Start menu, click Run, type in regedit and press Enter.

2. Use Registry Editor to view the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

3. Double click the UninstallString registry value, select all the contents of the Value Data box and press CTRL+C to copy them.

4. Quit Registry Editor, go to Start menu, click Run, paste the uninstall command in the box, and then click OK.

Method Four: Shorten the Registry Key Name

Some programs would not show up in the Add/Remove Programs tool just because its registry key name is longer than 60 characters in length. Therefore, you should shorten its registry key name so that it would be showed in the Add/Remove Programs tool.

Go to the Start menu, click Run, type in regedit and press Enter. Use Registry Editor to view the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Click the registry key for that program you want to uninstall, click Rename on the Edit menu, and then change its name to a new name with less than 60 characters.
