We all know style is less about what you wear than how you wear it. But that doesn't mean we can't cast a keen ear to the ground in anticipation of this coming Autumn/Winter season's hottest fashion trends. After all, fashion is about having fun with your look, experimenting and trying new things.
Here are some key looks to try this season that will single you out as one fashionable lady about town.
1940s glamour is big news - think ultra-feminine, luscious fur coats, strings of pearls around the neck and teeny weeny cinched in waists that ooze sex appeal. Knee length skirts or dresses are perfect for capturing the look and are a good daytime or work-wear option.
Also big is 1970s sophisticated boho chic. With wide flared, high waisted trousers and floaty elegant blouses tucked in you will look ladylike and cool.
Moving away from last season's brights trend, block colours remain at large, yet have made the transition to a more demure palette of jewelled shades. Precious gemstone colours warm up a cold autumn's day and bring your outfit gracefully into the new season. For those who prefer classic colours, browns, beiges and neutral shades are still a timeless classic.
Try to be more experimental with fabrics. On the catwalks we have seen unusual textiles such as tartan, tweed, leather, silk, lace and uber-feminine brocade.
Amongst one of the biggest trends for dresses are pleats, and already styles can be found in many high street stores. Knitted dresses are both snug and adorable, and they offer the perfect opportunity to jump on this season’s pattern trends, and remember, the chunkier the knit the better.
When it comes to footwear, boots are practical but needn’t be frumpy. Choose a pair lined in fur for super snuggly walks in the park, or a pair laden with buckles for biker chick cool. Brogues remain a fashion staple and this season sees the emergence of the brogue boot which will add interest and a quirky edge to any girl's outfit.
The most important thing when it comes to fashion is enjoying what you wear and dressing to suit your shape. Don't be afraid to try out new styles; you may actually find a look that you really love.
From tartan to flare dresses there are a hundred different ways you can transform your wardrobe for Autumn/Winter 2011, and when it comes to hitting the new season in style, confidence is the key.
