Knowhow-Now Article

When the media and magazines tend to be full of leggy models draped in the latest fashions, a woman on the more petite side can feel excluded and wonder if the same range of styles are available to her. These days, however, while style mags may not necessarily use models that are on the shorter side, there is a much wider choice of petite wear available on the market.

Take jeans and trousers as a perfect example; we all know these are displayed in stores in both ‘short’ and ‘long’ lengths. And jeans are certainly a party staple - many clubs and bars have a more relaxed dress code so, for example, if you are out for a friend’s birthday cocktails in the winter months, a pair of petite skinny jeans teamed with knee high stiletto boots and a sheer blouse would make a cosy and stylish outfit.

Of course, sometimes the dress code calls for all out glam, and since there is a plethora of petite party dresses out there, you can be sure to find a style and colour to suit. If you are on the curvier side, why not try a wrap dress to really accentuate your figure? In a bold animal print, add some cute suede, black shoe boots to give you some extra height and perhaps wild, tousled hair to really embrace the jungle.

For a more formal party occasion such as a business function, there are a great range of monochrome petite dresses out there. If you are comfortable with your arms, try a sleeveless shift with an all over black and white geometric print. Simply team this with a bag and shoes in an exciting raspberry or Ceylon blue to add a splash of colour.

Just because you aren’t 5’9”, doesn’t mean you can’t pull off a maxi dress. Nowadays they are available out there in petite sizes – take Nicole Ritchie as your inspiration (the star is alleged to be 5’1”) and opt for a flowing, floral hippy number with cork wedges for a glamorous yet laid back look which would be ideal for a summer wedding.

Every woman knows that attempting to find that perfect party outfit, never mind having to factor in their personal size, height and shape, can be frustrating at the best of times. Luckily, there is now a wide range of petite clothing available both online and on the high street, meaning all you need to do is add a pair of killer heels and get ready to hit the dance floor!
