Stuttgart is a city towards the south of Germany, and it offers many benefits to anyone who is considering taking a city break there.

A good place to start would be the Altes Schloss, otherwise known as the Old Castle. This dates back to the 15th century, although the original medieval part of the castle dates back to the 10th century. Look for the distinctive water fortress – this is the oldest part of the castle that still stands today. While you are there, you can explore the Wuerttemberg State Museum, housed in the castle itself. This is a good opportunity to discover more about the castle and also some of the items that were owned by royalty through the years. There is one place in Stuttgart that offers a sensational view, and that is the Television Tower. Otherwise known locally as Fernsehturm, the tower is open to visitors on most days of the year. It was opened in 1956 and soars up almost 217 metres into the sky. You can go up as high as 153 metres if you pay a visit to the higher observation deck. Don’t worry if you feel thirsty once you have got to the top and seen the view; there is a cafe at the top providing drinks and snacks for those who want to enjoy the experience for a while longer.

If you want to take in more of the city and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the streets, it’s a good idea to purchase a ticket for the hop on, hop off Stuttgart Tour. As the name will suggest, this gives you the opportunity to hop off the bus whenever you see something you want to explore in more detail. For example you might want to have a ride on the electric rack railway too. There are only four of these in the entire world, so it is well worth the experience. It has been in operation for more than a century now, and you can travel from southern Stuttgart for a distance of 2.2km in total.

This provides you with an opportunity to see more of Stuttgart than you would otherwise. Just remember to head back again so you can return to your hotel in Stuttgart to rest up for another day’s exploration of the city. There is always a lot more to see, no matter what time of year you visit.
