In July 2008 - Queensland, Australia, there was a report that a police smashed a car window to save what looked like an unconscious baby but later on discovered that it was only a reborn baby doll. The police officer said that the doll was "unbelievably believable”. The people who’ve witnessed the occurrence were also troubled for the baby because they too thought that it was indeed a true babe.

Unreal, yet so true! You could have seen few of these reborn dolls in shops, department stores, or in the bazaars were they are being held by women or placed in strollers as if they are real babies. They’re also seated in cars putting seatbelts on them so they can be guarded from any unseemly event. A number of young women dress the dolls and cleanse their hair. Indeed, these reborn dolls are well treated and are well cared for as if they are real newborns - real babies.

Most of reborn doll owners are just doll collectors. While quite a few used these dolls to replace a babe they once lost or have already grown up kids and miss their kid’s infant years. Adopting a reborn doll has stoked social and psychological concerns. Studies suggest cuddling a baby causes a release of hormones which generate a sense of emotional comfort With that, some experts believe this may take place with lifelike babies as well. So holding reborn baby dolls could produce what is known as cuddle therapy.

Holding reborn dolls may help sorrowful grandparents to cheer them of their loneliness. Still, some child bereavement experts warn parents against replacing their deceased baby with dolls. Reborn babies should only signify a step to the grieving process and that parents shouldn’t be completely attached to their reborn as it might mean their pain is not being resolved at all.
