Seeking Horoscope Guidance For Living

Through the centuries, people have exhibited a desire to know the future and to acquire wisdom beyond what earthly logic can offer. Archeologists show that ancient Sumerians, the Egyptians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, and the Romans all had their systems of divination where they used the stars to assign attributes to people and predict human behavior. In the same manner, records of ancient civilizations show that seeking horoscope guidance for living is an old practice.

Horoscopes for Prediction

One of the most popular ways to seek guidance from powers beyond human logic is to read a horoscope. Horoscopes are forecasts for a certain time span based on the position and movement of the stars and planets at a specific point in time. Horoscopes are determined through astrology, which many academics scoff at and call a pseudoscience. Regardless of such skepticism, people are still seeking horoscope guidance for decision-making, for business and for matters of the heart.

Types of Horoscopes

The word horoscope is derived from the Greek word horoskopos meaning "a look at the hours.” There are many types of horoscope for indeed, many cultures study the stars and relate their movements to human activities. Of the numerous horoscopes in existence, the three that have the most followers are Western, Chinese and Vedic horoscope.

Horoscopes can also be classified as natal or mundane. Natal horoscopes are stylized maps of the universe placing the individual at the center; these are calculated based on the exact time and location of the native's birth for the purposes of gaining insight into the individual's personality and potential. Mundane horoscopes apply astrology to world events and concerns.

In common usage, horoscopes are mainly the outcome of an astrologer's interpretation. This interpretation can be based on a system of Sun sign astrology; or on the calendar significance of an event, as in Chinese astrology. Most newspapers and magazines carry regular columns that make predictions based on celestial influences in relation to the zodiacal placement of the Sun on the day of a person's birth, identifying the individual's Sun sign or "star sign" based on the tropical zodiac.

Natal Astrology

A horoscope produced from natal astrology is presented as an astrological chart or diagram representing the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, astrological aspects and sensitive angles at the time of an event, such as the moment of a person's birth.

When people are seeking horoscope guidance for major decisions, their natal charts are positioned against a mundane chart so that the probability of success can be computed. Predictions are then made on daily basis, monthly basis, yearly basis or these can encompass all of a person’s future. The predictions based on natal astrology can help as guide, but may not always go with the personality of every individual even if they have the same zodiac signs.

Applying the Zodiac Signs

The positions of the actual planets (including Sun and Moon) are placed in the chart, along with those of purely calculated factors such as the lunar nodes, the house cusps including the mid-heaven and the ascendant, zodiac signs, fixed stars and the lots. Angular relationships between the planets themselves and other points, called aspects, are typically determined. The emphasis and interpretation of these factors varies with tradition.
