Knowhow-Now Article

As a musician it is always a positive thing to have a famous musician to look up to, admire, and model your sound off of. However, in the case of classical acoustic guitar, it can be very challenging to think of artists who are famous for playing this instrument. These artists are out their though, and with the right information you can easily find famous classical acoustic guitar musicians from which to draw inspiration. Below I touch on a few of these famous classical acoustic guitar musicians and some of their more famous works.

Alan Banks

Alan Banks is a more recent classical acoustic guitar musician from Western Australia. He was born in 1983 and studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He is noted as playing an array of different styles of music including Classical, Spanish/Flamenco, Latin, Jazz and Bluegrass. Mr. Banks now plays all over the world and his most famous productions include Mnemonics (2005) and Last Drinks in Derry (2008).

Abel Carlevaro

Abel Carlevaro was a classical acoustic guitar musician that was born in Uruguay in 1916. Carlevaro was not limited to just playing the instrument however, as he was also a noted composer. His productions include such famous compositions as "Preludios Americanos" and "Concierto No 3 para Guitarra y Orquesta". Carlevaro was also credited as a master teacher of the instrument and was often invited to teach several “master classes” as he traveled abroad.

Adam Holzman

Adam Holzman is a famous musician of the classical acoustic guitar who now is a professor of the guitar at the University of Texas at Austin. Born in New York City in 1960, Holzman was chosen twice as a student in the US master classes of Andres Segovia. His many records include Jazz Rocket Science, Spork, The Big Picture, and In A Loud Way. He has been making record with his band Brave New World since the publication of The Big Picture.

Adam Darr

Adam Darr was a player of the classical acoustic guitar, singer, and composer born in Germany in 1811. It is said that Darr began playing the instrument sometime between the ages of 12-18, and left home to tour the world at around the age of 23. Darr is credited with over 300 compostitions, 60 works for the classical acoustic guitar, and he also wrote a respectable comedic operetta for mens voices "Robinsonade."

Of course, these are not all of the famous classical acoustic guitar musicians out there, but they are a good place to start. Whichever musician you chose to listen to, make sure its one that reflects your personal taste and style and one that you can really enjoy. Not matter what, remember to keep playing and soon you’ll be under the bright lights!
