Knowhow-Now Article

For many brides-to-be, selecting the right wedding dress is an arduous task. It is meant to be the piece of clothing that shows off their beauty like no other and symbolises, in clothing terms, the perfect day. The sheer plethora of bridal dresses available can make the process a daunting and sometimes stressful one.

Consequently, wedding accessories are often seen as mere add-ons, but a careful selection of a few tasteful pieces will compliment and embellish a wedding dress.

When it comes to jewellery, less is definitely more and it's not advisable to wear a complete set at once. It is best to pair earrings with a bracelet or a necklace with a ring. If you're tall with a long neck, long earrings will look good. But if you are short, small earrings will be more flattering. Avoid wearing more than one ring on each hand or each finger, unless the latter happens to be your wedding band and engagement ring. Solid silver bands look beautiful and should be worn loosely on the right arm. However, if the bracelet is adorned with gems then it should be worn close to the skin with no room to dangle.

A wedding veil is traditional and if you're planning a traditional wedding then you should include it as one of your wedding accessories. A good tip is to first consider your bridal hairstyle as this will determine how the veil will sit on your head. A veil should compliment your hair, not the reverse. Trying on various different lengths and styles while wearing your wedding dress will also help you make a much better decision than if you were in casual clothing.

A tiara can be difficult to fit and your hair type - fine or coarse - may determine whether it stays in place. Hairspray is available to roughen up hair and keep the tiara in place for longer. A good fit is vital, especially if it's going to be holding the veil in place.

A wedding bouquet is another essential accessory. Choosing one that suits your colour palette and taste, whether it is contemporary or traditional, is important. It's important to order your flowers as soon as possible and vital if they will be out of season at the time of your wedding. Styles include the traditional round and cascade, hand-tied and sheaf bouquets.

The final accessory is the bag. Although you won't carry this down the aisle or at the reception, there are many designed in fashions that don't look out of place next to bridal dresses. It is handy to have one on standby holding makeup, perfume and even the ubiquitous mobile phone in case of an emergency.
