Knowhow-Now Article

While jean skirts and cut-off shorts are staple spring/summer items, you get to have a bit more fun when choosing what top to pair them with. As the warm weather months quickly approach, it's time to look at what tops are going to be must-haves for spring and summer. Whatever your fashion personality is - whether it's girly, vintage, tom-boy, earthy or a mixture of everything - you can find several tops to work into your warm weather wardrobe.

Firstly, there are plenty of great tops that you can wear to work this spring/summer. Though it's difficult to sit in the office when the sun's shining outside, having after-work plans and the perfect day-to-evening top will help the hours pass quickly. Popular tops this upcoming spring/summer season include cowl neck short-sleeved shirts in prints and bright solid colours. The detail of the cowl neck makes these tops dressy enough for work, but casual enough to wear from the office to after-work drinks or a night out. Blouses will also be popular this spring/summer and are also ideal for the office.

As for the all-important going out tops, there are plenty of fresh looks to choose from. Particularly exciting for spring/summer 2012 is the knot front top, which features a knot just below the bust for a very slimming silhouette. Also flattering and always sexy is the wrap top, which accentuates all your best features while sneakily hiding your more troublesome areas. For an extra splash of glam, buy these styles in a shimmery metallic fabric or go bold with sequins.

Speaking of going bold, one of the hottest upcoming trends is the one-sleeve top. This fashion-forward, asymmetrical silhouette looks stunning on every body type. Wear it with a pair of dark skinny jeans and platform heels for a truly runway-worthy look.

Finally, for a more casual top, the checked shirt remains a strong look for spring/summer 2012. With celebrities such as Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Moss, Taylor Swift, Pippa Middleton and Lauren Conrad all sporting this tom-body chic look, the comfy checked shirt looks like its staying around for at least another season. For a 70s-inspired look, choose a checked shirt in earthy tones such as beige, forest green, mustard yellow and burnt orange. If you're looking for something more contemporary, find a checked shirt in bright pinks and purples for a strong feminine look.

Clearly, there's a lot to look forward to this spring/summer. If you haven't started thinking about your warm weather tops, then pencil-in a weekend shopping trip as soon as possible. After all, in the world of fashion it's always best to think one season ahead of everyone else.
