Understanding The Different Things That May Trigger Your Asthma

Asthma sufferers definitely have it rough at times. Not only does a person with asthma have limited options when it comes to physical activity, but there are also a thousand different things out there that may just trigger a severe asthma attack. If you're dealing with this condition and don't know a lot about what may trigger an attack, take some time to read this article and find out what you should avoid and what may cause you to suffer an attack.

Unfortunately, millions of people with asthma out there still decide to light up and puff away on cigarettes. This isn't very smart, even if you didn't have asthma to begin with. The more unfortunate thing here is that some asthmatics fail to even realize that cigarette smoke is probably the biggest trigger of an asthma attack there is, because the smoke you inhale is going directly into your lungs and is obstructing the air! It might be hard to quit or stay away from smoke, but you need to try if you want to get away from this trigger.

Tip: You should stay home as much as possible when it is humid outside or when there is a lot of pollen in the air. Humidity and pollen will make it hard for you to breathe.

Pets constantly shed, although most people think that you only have to worry about it when the seasons go from hot to cold and vice versa. Just as people shed their skin, pets put off bits of hair and dander and other things that can act as severe allergens to people suffering from asthma. In fact, dead skin cells falling off people can also be a trigger. This is primarily what dust is made of, so try to keep a clean house and encourage people you live with to exfoliate their skin.

As mentioned above about the dust being a hazard, a dust mite is also a huge hazard to you. They're so incredibly small that you could be breathing them in and irritating your asthma. They're around to feed off of the different organic matter out there that makes up dust. So if you work to keep your house as free of dust as possible, you can start to get rid of these dust mites. They leave their droppings behind and definitely make a bad situation worse.

Tip: Keeping your allergies in check is important in order to keep your asthma in check. Allergies and asthma commonly go together, and when your allergies or flairing up, your asthma probably will to.

For people dealing with asthma, it's very important that you keep a clean house. But you're not only worried about the dust here. You also want to clean up any food and other things that may attract cockroaches. These little demons will wreak havoc on your home and breed like rabbits on fast-forward! Their droppings, saliva, eggs and just the mess they leave behind in general can aggravate your asthma and cause you to have an attack. Plus they're just nasty, so avoid getting them.

Mold can grow practically anywhere, so always be careful that you're not leaving anything wet around the home. Your bathroom should be leak-free and waterproof. Your basement should be sealed up like a drum. If you spot standing water or moisture, dry it out and spray for the mold before it grows.

Learning to avoid your triggers can help to prevent an asthma attack and can also help you breathe better in your day to day life. Follow the tips listed in the article above and stay away from those triggers.
